Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department

Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department The Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department has been professionally staffed by Volunteers and proudly serving the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey since 1911.

Proud Of Our Past, Dedicated To The Future. Organized in 1911, the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department has been proudly serving the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus, and its surrounding towns, for over 100 years. The spirit and commitment that established the organization from a small department with hand-pulled equipment to the present day highly-trained and accredited public safety organization it has becom

e, is attributed to our members generous volunteer service, the cornerstone of our community. Our fire department protects a predominantly residential population of approximately 4,000 residents in an area just under 2 square miles. The borough is also home to a small industrial park which includes light manufacturing and warehousing, as well as a commercial business district with professional office buildings. Bisecting our town is busy NJ State Highway Route 17 and the NJ Transit Railroad Main Line. The Department membership presently comprises 50 dedicated volunteers who donate their personal time to protect life, property and community. Our members are residents from Ho-Ho-Kus, or a contiguous town, many of whom are local business owners, borough employees, business professionals commuting to nearby NYC, and students who share the common goal of providing our residents and neighbors with well trained, equipped fire protection and rescue service. The strength of our department emanates from the great example of continuing service set by our Senior members, some who still actively answer calls and contribute daily.

Tuesday evening around 8:30 HHK Fire was dispatched to a reported kitchen fire at an occupied & operating restaurant on Sheridan Ave. Initial reports said efforts to extinguish the fire by staff were unsuccessful and first arriving FD units encountered smoke coming from the front entrance. All occupants had safely evacuated. Command requested a Working Fire assignment bringing mutual aid from neighboring depts. First arriving Engine 733 stretched a handline and quickly extinguished the fire in a large commercial oven. Damage was limited to the oven itself which was destroyed as well as water damage. There were no injuries. Thank you to all our Mutual Aid depts and we wish the business a speedy recovery and reopening!
