โTonight, with mixed emotions, I submitted my resignation as Madison Township Trustee.
This was not an easy decision.
A few months ago, I was honored to be appointed by the Allen County Commissioners to serve on the Allen County Fire & EMS District Board of Trustees. Since that appointment, myself and others have spent some considerable time consulting with legal counsel, the State of Indiana, and other legal professionals to determine whether I could continue serving simultaneously as Madison Township Trustee and as a Fire District Trustee.
During those discussions, it was determined that beginning January 1, 2027, I would no longer be able to hold both offices at the same time.
While every legal expert that was consulted agreed that I could continue serving as Township Trustee through the remainder of this year, I also recognize that there are significant governance decisions ahead for the Fire District. Rather than risk even the perception of a conflict of interest that could impact either Madison Township or the Fire District, I chose to step aside now. I believe that public service requires not only doing what is legally permitted, but also doing what is ethically right and in the best interest of the communities we serve.
Serving as Madison Township Trustee has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Over the past two years, we have worked hard to strengthen township government, provide responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and ensure that residents receive the services and support they deserve. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together.
To ensure continuity and stability for the remainder of the year, the party chairman has appointed Township Clerk Aimee Minich to serve as Trustee through December 31. Aimee is not only my wife, but she has worked closely with many of our township assistance recipients and has played a critical role in the day to day operations of the township. Her knowledge, dedication, and commitment to our residents made her a natural choice for this transition. I have complete confidence that she will continue moving the township forward and maintaining the level of service our residents expect and deserve.
As difficult as it is to step away from a position I deeply care about, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve all residents of Allen County through the Fire & EMS District. While my role is changing, my commitment to Madison Township and Southeast Allen County remains unwavering. I recognize the responsibility to ensure our communities continue to have their voices heard and their interests represented as we work to strengthen fire and EMS services for years to come
As a Fire District Trustee, I will bring the same principles that guided my service in Madison Township: leading with empathy, apply strategic governance decisions, listen to residents, and ensure that every taxpayer dollar is used as effectively and responsibly as possible.
My goal is to help build and support an emergency response system for all residents that provides professional 24/7 staffing that ensures immediate emergency response, while also preserving opportunities for volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel whose dedication, local knowledge, and commitment to their communities remain invaluable.
Thank you to everyone who has trusted, supported, and worked alongside me during my time as Township Trustee. It has truly been an honor to serve you, and I look forward to continuing that service in this new capacity.โ
