Yesterday, I had the honor of assisting in placing over 2,000 flags on the graves of veterans at Evergreen Cemetery. While I do not seek recognition for this act, I must express my disappointment at the minimal attendance of elected officials—only four, including myself and two city officials. This lack of participation reflects a broader societal neglect of our veterans, who selflessly defended our nation. As a community, we must prioritize genuine engagement and respect, particularly on Memorial Day, which is a solemn occasion for honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Let us remember the true significance of this day, rather than offering hollow greetings.
