You may notice the fall sports banners are being taken down tomorrow morning in preparation for holiday decorations. Don’t worry, we will be putting the football & cheerleading banners back up on Thursday morning in support of our Brickies heading to semi-state! 💜💛💜🏈🏈🏈💛💜💛
In case you are wondering why we are pulling them to just to put back up.....
All of the banners need to come down to properly place the garland. This is time consuming and we must work around downtown traffic. We go out early one morning to take down and head out the next to decorate.

Hello everyone this is Aimee Schallenkamp from the Maria Reiner Center and this is a copy of my weekly call that members will receive tonight!
Out of an abundance of caution due to the Lake County and State increased covid cases, We have decided to temporarily close the MRC once again effective immediately. The Governor has implemented pandemic requirements for all Hoosiers, and targeted restrictions for counties that are in the Orange and Red status. As of today we are in the orange status. The Governor explained that Hoosiers 65 and older and those with other known high-risk medical conditions should remain vigilant about protecting their exposure to COVID. Hoosiers in contact with individuals 65 and older and those with known high-risk medical conditions should consider suspending in-person visits, as hard as that is, as this surge continues to crest. So unfortunately, we will close until further notice. The safety of our members is our number one priority. Please be safe. Stay social distanced and wash your hands.
But on a good note, Monday is the Zoom computer class at 2pm with April.
Also, We have decided to have a pumpkin roll fundraiser Just in time for Thanksgiving!!! These are homemade rolls made here at the MRC kitchen by Michelle not me! Haha! so they will be delicious. We are following all health dept and cdc guidelines.
They are $10 per 10” roll
$12 per roll with walnuts
Please call us to place order by Tuesday Nov. 17th and pick up will be Mon-Wed Nov. 23-25 (from 8a-10) at the MRC or other arrangements to pick up if needed. Thanks for helping out our fundraiser.

With the rise in Covid cases, starting Monday, November 16, public access will be restricted at City Hall. You may conduct City business, over the phone, email or by appointment. If you have in person business that needs to be conducted, please call the appropriate department and make an appointment. The public is required to wear a face covering while in the building.
Garbage and Recycling pick-ups have been delayed this week due to the Holiday and a shortage of staff due to the pandemic. Compost and leaf bags will be picked up after the garbage and recycling routes are caught up. Please be patient as we continue to provide service in these difficult times. We have been getting a lot of questions about where all of our parks are located. We hope this graphic will be helpful.
We are beyond excited to say our playground installations are underway!!! Here is a sneak peek of old vs new that will be at Emily Silich Park.
We have 7 parks that will receive new playground equipment. They are as follows:
Emily Silich Park
Hillman Heights Park
Fred Rose 8th Street
Englehart Park
Glenwood Park
McAfee Park
Arbor Lane Park
These are in addition to the new playground installed at Barrington Ridge Park last year. We also have equipment for Robinson Lake Park that will go in next year. So, that’s 9 new play features for our community!!!
Funding for the playgrounds was provided from a Park Bond taken out in 2017. Bond funding can only be used for specified projects within that department. An overall assessment of each playground throughout the parks system was done. Out of our 23 park properties, 19 have some sort of play feature, while 9 of the 19 have old outdated equipment. How do you pick and choose which get done? You don’t! You find a way to make them all happen. Through strategic planning, we were able to make a little go a long way to help benefit the whole community. We are happy to be able to update our pocket neighborhood parks BUT we still have big plans for a destination playground in the near future.

We would like to thank the Student Conservation Association for their partnership in planting 30 more trees on the west end of Robinson Lake Park, Friday morning. In time, these trees will provide a buffer between the park and I-65 helping with air pollution and reducing traffic noise for park visitors. Special thanks to Drew with the USDA Forest Service, Daiva with the SCA and all the dedicated volunteers.

We tried the picture thing but people were grabbing flyers before we could post them. So we had a change of plans.

Hobart Little League Families,
We are very sorry to announce that Hobart Little League will not be hosting Fall Ball this season. The board has decided to wait until the Spring season due to everything going on. The league still needs more volunteers to become members of the board or Manage, Coach and maintain the facility. We will refund anyone who requested their fees go towards the fall or it can be applied towards 2021 fees.
We will be posting open board positions for next year. If you would like to become a board member in 2021 and have your name placed in the ballot please send us a message.
