B-Shift participating in some HAZMAT training. HAZMAT, short for hazardous material, refers to any substance or material that can pose a risk to health, safety, or the environment if not handled properly. These materials can be damaging during normal use or during accidental release. HAZMAT encompasses a wide range of substances, including corrosive, flammable, combustible, and toxic materials.
