The Hobbs Police Department would like to recognize School Resource Officer Nik Mann for his continued dedication to serving and supporting the students of Hobbs Municipal Schools and families within our community.

Today Officer Mann gave first grader, Mr. Westyn Atkinson, a Ride with a Cop to School experience. Moments like these help strengthen positive relationships between law enforcement and the youth we serve.

Officer Mann, along with Lea County Sheriff's Office Deputy M. Goins, also treated Mrs. Valdez’s class at Southern Heights Elementary to pizza, drinks, and snacks in recognition of achieving the best attendance record in the entire school building.

Our School Resource Officers and partnering agencies play an important role both inside and outside the classroom by fostering trust, encouraging student success, and creating meaningful connections throughout our schools and community.

Thank you to Officer Mann and Deputy Goins for your professionalism, leadership, and continued commitment to the students of Hobbs.

Today we had a special visit at the station from a few amazing Girl Scouts who stopped by to drop off cookies for our officers.

Thank you for thinking of us and taking the time to show your support. It’s a reminder of the strong community we serve and the kindness that’s out there every day.

We appreciate you all. 🍪🚓

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Sobriety Checkpoints and Saturation Patrols

The Hobbs Police Department will conduct and participate in Sobriety Checkpoints or Saturation Patrols in the City during the months of May and June, 2026. Officers will educate drivers on the dangers of Driving While Intoxicated and target impaired drivers on our roadways to ensure the streets of Hobbs are safe.

The Hobbs Police Department remains committed to educating our community and discouraging impaired driving. DWI is not a victimless crime. Hundreds of lives can be saved each year if every driver made the right decision not to drive impaired.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Traffic Safety Division provides overtime grant funding to local law enforcement agencies for traffic safety enforcement, training, education, and equipment in high-risk areas statewide. This partnership strengthens efforts to enhance road safety and reduce impaired driving across New Mexico communities, creating safer roads for all.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT: Rental Fraud on the Rise ⚠️

We are seeing an increase in rental scams across the city involving individuals posing as landlords or property managers.

Scammers are advertising homes or apartments, often at below-market prices, and requesting deposits or application fees before a showing or lease is verified. In many cases, the property is not actually for rent or does not belong to the person collecting payment.

Protect yourself:
• Never send money without seeing the property in person
• Verify ownership or management through official channels
• Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true
• Avoid payment methods like wire transfers, gift cards, or cash apps to unknown individuals

If you believe you’ve been targeted or victimized, report it to the Hobbs Police Department at (575)397-9265.

Stay alert. Stay informed.
