Art With Liz is settling right into its new home at the Grand Street Branch this week!

The group started with a lecture on American painter Edward Henry Potthast, admiring his work together on the big screen before diving into their own watercolors and mixed media pieces. Renovation or not, this group shows up, and we love that for them.

If you've been wanting to try your hand at painting, drawing, or mixed media, take this as your sign!

Art With Liz meets every Wednesday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
All materials are provided, and it's open to adults 18 and up.
Registration is required, you can also join live on Zoom or YouTube if you can't make it in person.

Writing Craft Practice: Show vs. Tell

Show vs. Tell is perhaps the most common rule a writer hears when asked how to improve their writing. It’s a rule, rightfully so, that causes angst and confusion. But it shouldn't. Its common (everyone does it!) and fixable. It's about training your eye to see it and then how you can fix it. Question: How can you show everything? You can’t (or shouldn’t)....

Beginning today, Thursday, August 13, our Main Library at 500 Park Avenue will be temporarily closed through October 4 while we kick off the next phase of our historic renovation. The 2nd and 3rd floors reopen Monday, October 5, and we cannot wait to show you what's ahead.

Here's the thing though, your library isn't going anywhere. We're just spreading out across the city for a little while. Head to the Grand Street Branch for full service, catch us at our outdoor Storytimes in the parks, or grab a book from one of our 24/7 lockers around town. Swipe through to see everywhere you can find us.

We know change can feel like a lot, especially when it comes to a place so many of us love. But this renovation means a stronger, more accessible library for Hoboken for generations to come, and we're so glad to have you with us for it.

Full details and FAQs are here: hobokenlibrary.org/renovation

We'll see you around the neighborhood!

Movie Pick and Review: Wi******er (2018)

Gun heiress Sarah Wi******er (Helen Mirren) builds a 7-story mansion. Staircases lead to nowhere, and 100’s of rooms open to only walls. Honestly, I thought this was an exaggerated historical fiction account, but no, this is a inspired by true story. The house in San Jose, California, is still standing and open for tours, and many consider it the most haunted residential house in the United States....
