With DuPont no longer the Delaware giant it once was, we find that once again (for the past 23 years!) that the State of Delaware's largest employer, is still The State of Delaware (31,400) followed (not closely) by Christiana Care with 11,612. Gee I wonder where the State generates all the necessary 'revenue' to pay all those people? Think about it and Vote differently IF you want things to be actually different in the future.

The top ranked employer first reached number one on the list in 1999.

Memorial Day isn't "happy" - it's to remember those that gave their lives fighting tyranny and oppression so others may live free. Thankful that those that served and sacrificed to save and keep freedom alive. Bless them all and those that love and remember them.

If anyone believes that Russia follows the Geneva Convention or follows the rules of engagement. THIS is what Russia thinks of civilian, non-combatants. Not only did the tank viciously swerve to crush the car, then the tank backed up to go over it again! Time for the US and the world to crush Russian economically and financially to thwart this unwarranted aggression and invasion of a peaceful people and independent country. Miraculously, the driver survived, but not because the tank commander wanted him too.

First, I have to say “Thank You” to the Meyer Administration for posting the totals by category for County spending and now for where all the Federal Government COVID-19 funds are being spent (as this wouldn't have ever happened in prior administrations), so that's a big hat tip for having some transparency. However, it seems that there should be much more detail provided as to "why" so much has been spent on new Computers & Computer supplies (almost half a million - $431.6k so far) and why they were needed and what those new computers are being used for and even where they are being used.
Also of concern is the "Communication equipment" category, which by definition means hard goods, such as radios, cell phones, etc., and not paper pamphlets, printing cost, or letters, (it's got its own spend category) - Communication equipment is approaching a $1 million of Federal COVID-19 Funds spent, so please tell us what exactly did 'we' buy and where it's being utilized? I doubt funds were used to buy cell phones, since you can toggle through and see that the county only spent a total of just $375.00 for cell phone service (page 4).
When you look at the actual supplies for helping our community, you quickly see just how little in actual support and supplies have been provided to First Responders (Police, Paramedics, All Fire Companies, etc.) and community centers. You’d think this would be the greatest expenditure category of those Federal funds, so that as any people receive the most assistance and help. Maybe there are much more supplies being distributed, but let's show the names of the places, groups and the amounts going to them, please so we can see what’s being done.
$322 Million has been allocated just for NCC to use in the battle against COVID-19 and only $2.67 Million out of $323 Million has been spent 5 months into this pandemic. By comparison, the State of DE received between $900k to $1.2 Billion and we’ll likely never know where those funds were spent! Even IF every test kit cost $100 each, (and they don’t, more like $10-20 each), we could test EVERY person in DE and only spend $96 Million to do so. Again, I’m not casting any doubt on Matt Meyer's desire and willingness to address this pandemic, but once you say you're going to be "open and transparent" then, it's up to you to ensure that a full and complete accounting (with lots and lots of details and explanations) is available for everyone to see. Mostly, where and what those purchase for hard goods and equipment are being deployed and how they’re helping the County battle COVID-19, is what’s needed.
As the saying goes, the devil is in the details and all taxpayers in New Castle County (and DE too, Gov. Carney!), deserve to know exactly on what, where, why and how OUR tax dollars are being spent.

Open Expenditures is part of our commitment to improving transparency by providing a guided view through complex financial information.

Our State Legislature held a virtual meeting today to vote on granting itself the ability to conduct Legislative meetings virtually - Just one problem with their voting and passing that 'law'. They should have meet in Leg Hall to do that since it is required for Legislators to be at their desks to vote and do the People's business. Any desire to change an existing law in the DE Assembly, would have to take place at their desks and that the new change was done via a virtual meeting to (wait for it) to allow the Legislature to hold meetings virtually... Doesn't that make what they just voted and passed, null and void, as they didn't follow the established procedures and requirements in place, to change that procedure and requirements. Also, how will the general public be able to see, listen and interact with their Legislators in these online meetings? Lots of questions and issues with conducting Government/Legislative meetings and dealing with Bills and Laws that will impact the citizens of Delaware that still need to be addressed and answered. I just voted that every DE taxpayer and business owner can pay 30% less of ALL taxes in DE this year, since our Governor forced people to stop working and businesses to close. I held the meeting and vote virtually so it's "official" right? Now is not the time for "Do as I say, not as I do!" politics.

I am not selfish for wanting to be able to provide for my family, to earn a living (as meager as it may be right now) to pay my obligations and ensure that my bills/debts are paid. I will take precautions and patronize those businesses that wish to re-open that do the same. It is my choice just as it is your choice to remain sequestered in your home, if you wish. Life is full of dangers and unexpected events happen every day so we can either live in fear and hid from the world, letting a few people decide what we can or cannot do, or we can go forth, take all reasonable precautions and live our lives as a free people. Death is inevitable for all of us - no one knows the day and hour of our demise, but let us set aside the bickering and strive for peace. -[ Mark Blake ]- Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DW4ga_M5Zdn4%26fbclid%3DIwAR2xIlhrjzifW-iUhOaQ2rtBPoTzy7yzLD4d3qry2z6jxbBjmrGUayLajuI&h=AT3_SUUV7J9XNf__uRnw-8hXZF7ovHEPfkjx2-d64VujMl96AmxNfi6wbRTGXApBs6RDH_gkyky7RqVcTOdBq1g-T4xj-MIbk3waQUljkI9kJNYm7_HOHvdbdFtG8v0xKB-mT2AfRR3i6sz4YFlhsREzpxw-

The pure shortsightedness of some of these arcane 'soft re-opening" restrictions boggle the mind! For hair dressers/cutters/barbers, you can only have (2) stations open at a time? How about DE do what others have done in this specific business! Hang a shower rod and clear shower curtains between each station from the ceiling and masks for both clients and customers and use sanitizer spray between each client visit - Critical thinking has been lost on far too many elected people that have forgotten how to actually solve problems AND be safe and compliant! The cost to open a 8 station salon and only have (2) people working, doesn't pay for the lights to be on - come on Governor Carney - think like your life depends on being able to earn a living (like most Delawareans! Time to let more creative people take the reins so our vital small businesses can open and get back to work and bring back their employees AND actually earn a living again!

Retail, hair dressers able to resume limited services while maintaining health guidelines WILMINGTON, Del. – Governor John Carney on Tuesday announced a series of interim steps allowing small businesses to resume limited operations effective 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8. The goal of the interim step...

4th Amendment issues? Why yes it is, even the case law is from a Delaware case that went to the US Supreme Court - In Delaware v. Prouse, 440 U.S. 648 (1979), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the police stopping vehicles for no reason other than to check the drivers' licenses and registrations was unconstitutional.

What is the directive to officers on the road? When will Delaware hit its "peak?" Those questions and more in this edition of coronavirus Q&A.

Local restaurants have been forced to close their eat in dining/drinking spaces, and instanly lost a massive amount of their usual sales. Please support them by calling in a takeout order and help them during this unprecidented times. Other local small businesses are also seeing huge drops in their sales. Don''t shop online, get some food, go get your oil changed, have your vehicle serviced. Buy some things to tackle those home improvement projects you've been putting off (you might have the time now). Help our local buinsesses survive this uncharted economic future - they're fighting for their very existence and we'd all miss them if they fail.
