HODGENVILLE, Ky. — The City of Hodgenville is addressing inaccurate reports and rumors concerning material being spread on City-owned property. The material is not sewage, and no sewage is being dumped at the site.

The material consists of silt and dirt naturally present in creek water. It is removed as part of the City’s fresh-water filtration process. When the treatment plant’s filters are cleaned through a routine process called backwashing, the collected silt and dirt are removed.

This material is not sewage and is not contaminated.

Because of frequent rainfall this summer, the creek water has carried additional sediment, requiring the filters to be backwashed more often than usual. As a result, the City has accumulated and managed more of this material.

The silt and dirt are being spread on City-owned property in an area that is not used as a children’s play area. The City is authorized by the Commonwealth of Kentucky to manage the material in this manner under a Beneficial Reuse permit.

This is not a new practice. Removing and managing naturally occurring silt and dirt has been part of Hodgenville’s water-filtration operations since the treatment plant began operating.

The City of Hodgenville remains committed to protecting public health, operating its water system responsibly and keeping residents informed. We appreciate our local media partners’ assistance in sharing clear and accurate information with the community.

The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park is celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with its Building America Building Brick Competition on Saturday, August 29!

Participants are invited to use their creativity and imagination to build something inspired by America and its history. The public can view the creations from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by judging and an awards ceremony.

REMINDER: Overnight work on the 210 bridge will begin tonight at 9PM. The bridge will remain closed from 9PM to 5AM Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

The KY 210 bridge on North Lincoln Boulevard will be fully closed overnight on Monday, August 3; Tuesday, August 4; and Wednesday, August 5 while crews set bridge beams.

Closures will be in effect each night from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. The road will be open during the day.

Once the beams are set, traffic will return to the configuration that has been in place since the project began in May.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use an alternate route during the closure periods.

Sean of the South is coming to Hodgenville!

Join Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park on Saturday, September 26, for an evening of music, storytelling and humor with nationally acclaimed writer and performer Sean Dietrich, better known as “Sean of the South.”

Dietrich’s performance is part of the park’s Freedom 250 Connections series commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. The evening will feature heartfelt stories and music, including songs Abraham Lincoln may have known during his lifetime.

Accessible parking will be available at the Birthplace Visitor Center. All other guests should park at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, where complimentary shuttle service will begin at 3 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and hand-carried coolers. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited inside the park.

🏃‍♂️🚴 Get ready for the McDougal Lake Trail Fest! NEW DATES!

The eight-mile running route will also serve as the bike route, although cyclists will take a separate, clearly flagged exit route.

The four-mile route follows much of the same course and includes the same Bigfoot encouragement. Its toughest stretch will come between miles 2.5 and 3.5, including the Meadow Climb and Scooter Hill.

💧 IMPORTANT REMINDER: This is a cupless race.

Participants must bring their own reusable bottle, cup or hydration system. Water refill opportunities will be available at mile 2 for the four-mile race and at miles 2 and 6 for the eight-mile race.

All participants will receive a decal and finisher medal. Running Soles, LLC has also provided gift-card awards for first, second and third place in the trail runs. Handcrafted awards will be presented to the overall winners across all races.
