On Friday, July 31, the LaRue County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary at Hodgenville First Baptist Church. The church provided Sheriff Smith with surveillance footage that helped identify the vehicle involved. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was immediately distributed to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Thanks to proactive policing and interagency cooperation, Deputy J. Sherrard of the LaRue County Sheriff’s Office and Lt. Riley of the Hodgenville Police Department located the suspect vehicle traveling through Hodgenville on August 3. The driver attempted to avoid law enforcement, but Lt. Riley located the vehicle after it turned off Lincoln Parkway onto a side road.

A traffic stop was conducted, and officers observed one of the items reported stolen from the church in plain view inside the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Michael Owens, 41, of Hodgenville, was arrested and charged with:
• Burglary, 3rd Degree
• Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree
• Possession of Ma*****na
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

I appreciate the assistance from Deputy J. Sherrard, Deputy C. Skaggs, Lt. Riley, and Officer Abell. Working together, our agencies remain committed to protecting our community and holding those who commit crimes accountable. - Sheriff Smith

On May 29, 2026, the LaRue County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding a possible stolen vehicle in the Mt. Sherman area. Sheriff Smith, Deputy Skaggs, and Deputy Wood responded to the Pleasant Church Road area to investigate.

While in the area, deputies observed Jeff Beard of Campbellsville operating a vehicle without wearing a seatbelt. A traffic stop was conducted, and Mr. Beard was charged with no seatbelt, expired registration plate, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Deputies then made contact with an individual at the property where the suspected stolen vehicle was believed to be located. Consent was granted to search the property. During the search, deputies located a Toyota 4Runner that had been entered into NCIC as stolen out of Adair County.

Matthew Bennett of Mt. Sherman was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000.
