The Village's 20th annual Oktoberfest-themed Platzkonzert Germanfest returns Sept. 11, 12 & 13 with three days of authentic German music, food and beer at the Virginia Mary Hayter Village Green, 5510 Prairie Stone Pkwy. This festival also offers free children's activities, contests, and live entertainment.

Festival Schedule:

🥨 Saturday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Local bicyclists are asked to take few minutes to complete a survey as part of the Village's application for Bicycle Friendly Community status from the League of American Bicyclists. The deadline to take this survey is Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Several services will be affected next week due to the Labor Day holiday.

🗑️ Garbage and recycling pickup will be on the delayed holiday schedule this week, with service delayed by one day.
♻️ SWANCC will not hold its electronics recycling drop-off at Village Hall on Monday, Sept. 7. This service will resume on Monday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon.
🏛️ Village Hall will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 in observance of Labor Day.
🏛️ The Village Board meeting originally scheduled for Monday, Sept. 7 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Sept. 8 starting at 7 p.m.

The Hoffman Estates Dementia Friendly Community Committee is hosting a community panel discussion "The Journey to Senior Living - Are You Prepared?" on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. at Village Hall.

Local financial experts from L&M Financial Services, Inc and representatives from agencies specializing in estate planning, in-home care, and senior care facilities will provide information about preparing for older adult care needs. The Hoffman Estates Fire Department is offering a Heartsaver CPR/AED course on Wednesday, Sept. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hoffman Estates Fire Station #24, 5775 Beacon Pointe Dr.

The course is intended for those with little to no medical training who want to learn CPR and AED use. Participants will learn when to phone 9-1-1, how to administer CPR, how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and how to provide relief from choking. The cost of the course is $50 per person.

Pre-registration is required; class sizes are limited. Call the Hoffman Estates Fire Department Administration Office at 847-843-4825 to register. Registration deadline is Sept. 16.

The America 250 Drone Show Powered by Kia & Weck Auto Group is officially coming to Platzkonzert Germanfest!

Originally scheduled during Northwest Fourth-Fest, the show has a new date and you can catch it lighting up the sky above the Hideaway on Saturday, September 12 at 9:30 PM.

The inaugural JapanFest NW is coming to the Hideaway Brew Garden on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. for an afternoon celebrating the rich traditions and culture of Japan.

Hoffman Estates has long been home to a strong community of businesses with Japanese connections. This special event will feature interactive activities, cultural demonstrations, and engaging live performances for all ages. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about Japan and Japanese culture at informational tables from the Japanese Culture Center and Consulate-General of Japan.

A bat found in the 1000 block of Worthington Dr. in Hoffman Estates on Sept. 2 has tested positive for rabies, according to Cook County Animal and Rabies Control officials.

The public is advised not to handle bats or any other wild animals. Report dead bats or skunks on private properties or on roadways by calling Cook County Animal and Rabies Control at (708) 974-6140.

Animal control officials ask anyone who has been bitten by a bat or has had potential exposure to a bat to contact a medical provider. Residents are reminded to make sure pets are current on their rabies vaccinations and to keep dogs, cats and ferrets on a leash or supervised outdoors.
