Please join us in welcoming three new officers to the Hoffman Estates Police Department!

Before heading off to the police academy next week to begin their training, our newest officers were officially sworn in yesterday by Bill McLeod, Village of Hoffman Estates Mayor.

We're excited to see Officer Grant, Officer Parra, and Officer Rosland take their first steps in what we hope will be long and rewarding careers with HEPD and the Village of Hoffman Estates Government.

We wish them the best of luck at the academy and look forward to having them back in 16 weeks and serving alongside them! 💙

We know you're just stopping for a minute, but with the increased traffic around our schools, even that quick stop creates congestion and unsafe situations for students, families, and other drivers.

Please be mindful of where you stop and park and help keep traffic moving safely for everyone.

As our students head back to school, we're asking everyone to slow down, pay attention and give yourself extra time to deal with buses and traffic.

Remember:
🛑Stop for a school bus with its lights flashing and stop arm extended.
🚸 Watch for students and pedestrians in the crosswalk
📵 Put the phone down and keep your eyes on the road
⚠️ Obey the posted school zone speed limit

🚔Traffic Safety Campaign 🚔

The Hoffman Estates Police Department is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "Drive High. Get a DUI" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns this Labor Day. From August 14th through the early morning hours of September 8th, officers will be out in force, focused on stopping impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

Officers will also be out enforcing seat belt laws as part of the "Click It or Ticket" initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle - front seat or back - should be properly buckled, every trip.

In addition to alcohol, officers will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by cannabis and other drugs. Messages like "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Drive High. Get a DUI" are part of a statewide education and enforcement effort aimed at saving lives.

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which administers the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT's "It's Not a Game" media campaign running across radio, TV and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.

🎒Back to School: A Reminder About E-Bikes & E-Scooters 🚲🛴

As our students head back to school this week and next, we want to remind parents and guardians to review the rules and expectations for e-bikes and e-scooters at their child's school.

We've been working alongside School District 54, Community Consolidated School District 15, Township High School District 211, and School District U-46 to educate students and families about safe and responsible riding. Please take a moment to review the rules with your children about where they can ride and where e-bikes and e-scooters are permitted.

Know the rules. Ride responsibly. Help us keep our students and community safe.

Be sure to check your school's parent portal for more information regarding e-bikes and e-scooter rules, as well as school pick-up and drop-off procedures.

Congratulations to Officer Johnson on being recognized as the Runner-Up Officer of the Year by The American Legion Department of Illinois in front of Bill McLeod, Village of Hoffman Estates Mayor and Village of Hoffman Estates Government Board.

This honor reflects Officer Johnson's dedication to serving the Hoffman Estates community with professionalism, integrity, and compassion. 🚔 July Traffic Enforcement Campaign 🚔

The Hoffman Estates Police Department conducted a traffic safety campaign throughout the month of July reminding motorists to slow down to save lives. The speed enforcement effort was conducted by the Hoffman Estates Police Department and other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway fatalities.

During the campaign, the Hoffman Estates Police Department:
➡ issued 117 citations
➡ made 4 arrests

The speed enforcement effort was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
