🌟 First Peoples Fund is NOW ACCEPTING applications for the Native Arts Ecology Building (NAEB): Rooted Pathways Program!

Native Arts Ecology Building (NAEB) extends support beyond individual artists by investing in Native nonprofit organizations, artist collectives, & Native Community Development Financial Institutions. Through cohort-based programs like Rooted Pathways, organizations gain resources, relationships, & tools to create meaningful opportunities for Native artists & elevate their value across communities.

$275,000 in funding will support 5 small Native-led arts & cultural organizations that are strengthening their foundations, uplifting artists, & deepening Indigenous arts ecosystems, with $55,000 grants to each organization.

➕ ABOUT ROOTED PATHWAYS
Rooted Pathways provides unrestricted general operating support, offering organizations the flexibility to define & advance their own well-being. The program includes participation in a learning cohort & requires interim & final reporting. Designed to support long-term sustainability, Rooted Pathways helps organizations deepen alignment with their mission & vision, strengthening their foundation, fostering growth, & building resilience over time. This program is a part of the Wallace Foundation’s two-year $36 Million Dollar Advancing Well-Being in the Arts Program.

✅ ELIGIBILITY
• Native-led arts organizations, businesses, or collectives with budgets under $500,000
• Serving U.S.-based artists and culture bearers from federally or state-recognized Tribes, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian communities
• Must not have received prior Wallace Foundation funding through other partners
• Must have been operating for at least two years

This is an opportunity with limited awards, but for those deeply rooted in this work. It offers meaningful support to honor Indigenous knowledge, strengthen community well-being, and sustain Native arts for generations to come.

🗓️ Deadline: May 22, 2026 at 5:59 PM MST

Niá:wenhkowa Akwesasne TV for covering our Akwesasne Business Expo!

04/27/2026

Join the Native Arts + Cultures Foundation for a virtual workshop on Native American intellectual and cultural property rights.

This session explores how Indigenous cultural knowledge and creative work are protected through both federal law and Tribal sovereignty. While intellectual property law often centers individual ownership, Indigenous knowledge is collective, relational, and carried across generations.

Featuring Ben Calabaza (Kewa Pueblo), who will share insights on intellectual property and the role of Native artists, art, design, and community responsibility, and Dr. Trevor Reed (Hopi), who will guide participants through intellectual property protection and its connection to Native American rights.

📅 Tuesday, May 5, 2026

We'd like to extend our gratitude to all who attended the Akwesasne Business Expo last week. Legend has it that the last such gathering was over 5 years ago! They say that in business, if you wait until you're ready, it'll never happen. That was the spirit we worked with to organize a day for networking, professional development, and inspiration. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive! We look forward to putting some ideas and suggestions into play at future OED events.
