In 2 weeks, Lewis County Government will be hosting the 4th Annual “Community Day at the Blueway” event down at the Mouth of Grinders Creek!

Locals and Visitors alike are invited to spend the day enjoying the beautiful Buffalo River during Tennessee’s official “Free Fishing Day”.

This event will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 11AM until 12PM at 2581 Buffalo Road in Hohenwald.

There will be FREE Blueway T-Shirts & Merch for the First 50 Adults in attendance…and FREE Goodie Bags & Merch for the first 50 Kids (ages 5 to 12) in attendance.

Kids & Adults will be able to Fish for FREE all day long! No fishing license is required, and there will even be limited fishing poles and bait provided by the TWRA.

Attendees will also receive a fresh, grilled hotdog with chips, a cookie and drink at no charge, while supplies last.

At 11:45AM there will be several drawings for FREE Door Prizes (individuals must be present to win).

Although the official event wraps up at Noon, attendees are encouraged to stay, play, swim, and enjoy the Blueway all day long!

A big thanks to the staff of the Lewis County Mayor’s Office/Maintenance Department, and the TWRA, as well as Walmart and the South Central TN Railroad Authority, for helping make this fun, family-friendly event possible.

🔧 NOW HIRING: Maintenance Technician ⚙️

Lewis County Government is currently accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Technician!

The maintenance technician is responsible for a variety of work in the general maintenance and repair of county buildings, facilities, equipment, vehicles and grounds. These duties include, but are not limited to, the following: carpentry, glazier, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry and grounds work.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of the above listed trades
- Basic mechanical knowledge
- Ability to perform a variety of physical labor including bending, kneeling, reaching
- Proven experience, education or training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job
- Good work references

Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting pay: $18 per hour
- Optional health, vision, dental, short-term & long-term disability insurance, and Air Evac
- Mandatory state retirement through TCRS
- 1 sick day earned per month
- 1 week of vacation after first year of full-time employment
- Paid county holidays, administrative days & inclement weather days
- Free $15,000 employee life insurance policy

TDEC is holding a Public Hearing regarding the proposed permit application that would allow 25 gallons of water per minute to be withdrawn from a tributary of Big Swan Creek by Fall Hollow Campground & Bed and Breakfast.

This hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at the Chamber of Commerce office inside the Strand Theater, which is located at 100 East Main Street in Hohenwald. An informational session starts at 5:00pm, while the public hearing session starts at 6:00pm.

If you are unable to attend in person, you can still make your voice heard by emailing TDEC at [email protected]. You need to include the File Number in the subject of your email, which is NRS25.306.

If you choose to email your comments to TDEC, please include the following information: your name and address…your concerns about water withdrawal and stream sustainability…your concerns regarding wildlife, fish habitat, biodiversity, and environmental impacts…and the importance of preserving Big Swan Creek for future generations.

All comments and emails to TDEC will be part of the public record, so please be respectful and professional as we make our voices heard regarding this important issue affecting our community and our natural resources.
