Lewis County Sheriff's Office

Lewis County Sheriff's Office The internal operation of the Office of Sheriff is the sole responsibility of the Sheriff. The current Sheriff is Matt Tiller.

A right, and correspondent duty, to exercise public trust as an office. The Office of Sheriff is not simply another "department" of county government. The internal operation of an Office of Sheriff is the sole responsibility of the elected Sheriff. The Office of Sheriff is a statutory/constitutional office having exclusive powers and authority under state law and/or state constitution. These inher

ent powers are not subject to the dictates of a local county governing body. The Office of Sheriff has inherent common law powers and sovereignty granted under a state's constitution and/or state law.

Some Info on the latest scam being reported to us today. A Lewis County citizen provided these images and this info. As you can see the scammers are making good attempts at trying to make these documents look official. The scammers are also providing a QR code that they are requesting potential victims to use to send money. We wanted to share to make everyone aware of these types of ongoing scams. Do not send gift cards, do not wire money, & when the scammers threaten you with a criminal arrest warrant against you just remember, law enforcement agencies and/or courts do not call you and tell you that there is a warrant for your arrest unless you send the money. One final note, after this person hung up on the scammer, a second scam caller called this person saying they have their address and threatened violence to them unless they sent money and the scammer demanded an amount that was less than the amount shown in the original document. As usual, these numbers shows up on your caller i.d. as private or unknown but sometimes the scammers can spoof another phone number or maybe even the sheriff's office phone number and make it appear as if the call is coming from a legitimate number. Please do not become a victim of these scammers.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, often called Dispatcher Appreciation Week, in 2026 is observed from April 12 to April 18, 2026. This week honors the "first" first responders—the 911 dispatchers, call-takers, and telecommunicators—who work 24/7 to provide essential support to public safety personnel and the community. The Lewis County Sheriff's Office would like to THANK and show our appreciation for all Dispatchers and especially our local Hohenwald Dispatch!!!

Our supply of firewood for the wood program has built back up significantly since the recent ice storm. Leading up to the storm, Sheriff Matt Tiller removed income limits to allow all Lewis County citizens access to this free service provided by the Sheriffs Department.

We were able to get citizens between 250-300 ranks of wood leading up to and during the storm. The inmates in this program worked extremely hard gathering and loading this wood for the citizens. We were able to provide citizens around 500 total ranks of wood this winter.

We were down to having zero available wood as a result of the storm and have built it back up to approximately 100 ranks as we prepare the supply for next winter. We are thankful to the citizens that donate the wood to this program. Have a blessed day!
