A very sad day for patrons of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

The Libby app team is saddened to hear of the passing of Dolly Parton.

Dolly was a beloved artist and cultural icon, but perhaps just as importantly, she was a lifelong champion of literacy and the belief that everyone deserves access to books. Through the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she helped put books into the hands of children in communities across the globe and inspired generations of young readers to discover the joy of reading.

Today, we’re taking a quiet moment to read in Dolly’s memory and to celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind.

Big shout-out to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center for sharing this beautiful migratory bird display with us! As the summer comes to a close, we see many different birds that pass through our area. For more information on what might be winging its way South, come see some of the mounted specimens on loan at the Hoisington Public Library.

Join us for book club as we read the debut adult fiction novel for Ruta Sepetys.
Readers will be immersed in 1920's Detroit in this story about a young heiress trying to break free of her dynastic and dysfunctional family. Thrilled to be invited to an exclusive arts institute, she jumps on the chance to put more distance between her and her relatives. But she soon discovers that there is more here that what meets the eye. Rules are unreasonably strict and why do classmates continue to vanish without a trace?

Do you know where your library card is? Most patrons don't, and that's ok! Bring in photo ID on your next visit and library staff will be happy to replace it.
In an effort to serve patrons better, the Hoisington Public Library will be asking patrons to present their library card every time they check out. This serves two purposes: #1- It protects your privacy as a patron. No need to say say your name, or that of your child in front of strangers. This also prevents unauthorized users from checking out on your card. #2- Your card gives you access to services at all 54 cooperating libraries throughout the Central Kansas Library System. Just think- one card to rule them all! In order to take advantage of this, patrons will need to present their card at check out. If you have any questions about this change in procedure library staff will be happy to answer them. We look forward to seeing you (and your card) soon!

Hoisington Public Library will host “William Allen White and the K*K in Kansas,” a presentation by Beverley Olson Buller on July 11 at 10:00am. Members of the community are invited to attend the free program which is made possible by Humanities Kansas.
The 1920s saw the re-emergence of the Ku Klux Klan across America, and sparked fear and violence against African Americans and other minorities. As the editor of the Emporia Gazette, White was acutely aware of the growing presence of the K*K in Kansas following WWI. Seeing no candidates free of Klan influence, White declared, “I want to be governor to free Kansas from the disgrace of the Ku Klux Klan.” This presentation follows the raucous two-month campaign that had White traveling over 2,700 miles to deliver 104 speeches, all directed at expelling the K*K.
