A little "THROW BACK THURSDAY" in the City of Holden. Pictured here is progress on a project that began on the drawing board in 1977 and was completed in late 1979.
The project is the construction of the Holden drinking water reservoir. The scope of this project required the purchase of 600 acres of land northwest of Holden, the construction of a 385 acre lake, the construction of a raw water pumping station, and five miles of 8" raw water line to deliver the water to the old water treatment plant located where the Holden Water Departments office is now.
The first picture shows Holden Water Superintendent Ralph Stansberry visiting with the construction contractor Bill Gibson of Gibson and Bowles Construction and the project engineer Gary Lee of E.T. Archer Engineering. The two colored pictures show construction of the primary spillway, first on the lake side of the dam, and the outfall below the dam.
