On April 7th you, the citizens we serve, will be faced with a decision concerning your property taxes when you go to vote. The issue you will decide would limit how much a home’s taxable value can increase for property tax purposes. The tax credits provided would result in indefinitely flat revenue for not only our District, but also school districts, ambulance districts, libraries and other services. The services provided by these organizations sustain some impact by these property tax freezes.

Our District is funded entirely by property taxes and we are already limited in growth by existing Missouri law. Unfortunately, our operating costs continue to rise, much like those experienced by many households and other industries. The proposed ballot issue would freeze permitted growth which could result in a need to ask for tax levy increases to fund the essential services required as our cost of business continues to grow.

Continued flat revenue may limit our ability to maintain apparatus and life-safety equipment in a timely manner as they reach the end of their service life. We encourage you to further research SB3 (Senate Bill 3) which will appear on your ballot on April 7.

🚨 PSA: Don't fall for the "natural" hype.

We need to talk about 7-OH (7-hydroxymitragynine), a potent psychoactive compound being sold in gummies, candies and liquid shots that's marketed as a chill vibe. Spoiler alert: it's anything but.

This unregulated, synthetic derivative of kratom is opioid-like and seriously potent - we're talking up to 13 times stronger than morphine. Yeah, you read that right. THIRTEEN.

The Missouri Poison Center is reporting a spike in exposures: 47 reports of exposures involving kratom or 7-OH so far in 2025, which is nearly double the number from 2024. Three of those cases involved isolated 7-OH, with at least one requiring hospital evaluation. These products carry huge risks, including addiction, overdose and even death. Your well-being is worth more than a questionable convenience store candy. The advice is clear: avoid 7-OH products.

Symptoms of 7-OH exposure may include:
🚫 Nausea, vomiting and gastrointestinal distress.
🚫 Anxiety, agitation, confusion and insomnia.
🚫 Rapid heart rate, high blood pressure and trouble breathing.
🚫 Seizures, unconsciousness and withdrawal symptoms.
🚫 Risk of overdose, especially when combined with alcohol or other sedatives.

Stay safe, friends, and remember: if a "remedy" is that potent, it's not a casual indulgence.

Severe storms will be possible this afternoon through this evening. This afternoon there will be the chance for storms out ahead of a cold front. This round of storms is more uncertain however, if they do develop all modes of severe weather will be possible including very large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. The best potential area for that will be in the enhanced threat area (orange). A second and more certain round of storms will be along the cold front itself late this afternoon into tonight. The main threat with this round of storms will be for damaging winds with a few tornadoes also possible. Highs today will be in the 70s to lower 80s.

On the April 7, 2026 election ballot, voters in Johnson County will see the Johnson County Property Tax Credit Question, which stems from Missouri Senate Bill 3 (SB3). Below is a link with details on what could happen if you vote Yes or No. Please educate yourself in reading Senate Bill 3 (SB3) so you have a good comprehension of the bill before you vote.

If Senate Bill 3 (SB3) is approved, the credit could reduce revenue for fire districts, ambulance districts, school districts, cities and other taxing entities that rely on property tax.

Both in the short and long term, these budget constraints will force the district to extend apparatus replacement cycles and significantly reduce expenditures for training, equipment and personal protective equipment.

Senate Bill 3 (SB3) is separate from the existing Senior Property Tax Credit under Senate Bill 190.
