Michigan Autistic Adult Advisory Committee (MiA3) has developed an anonymous survey to help the Michigan Autism Council better understand the lived experiences, priorities, and needs of Michigan’s autistic community.
Autistic voices must be central to the decisions, policies, and services that affect autistic lives. We hope you will share this survey with any autistic people, ages 13 or older who may want their voices heard and their needs reflected in Michigan’s Autism State Plan. Please also feel free to share it with other organizations that serve or support autistic people.
Although we deeply appreciate the caregivers, friends, family members, and professionals who support autistic people, this particular survey is intended to be completed by autistic people themselves.

CMHOC Awarded Five-Year SAMHSA Grant to Expand Early Diversion and Crisis Stabilization Services

Community Mental Health of Ottawa County (CMHOC) is excited to announce it has been awarded a $3 Million Dollar Early Diversion Grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The five-year grant will support the expansion of crisis stabilization and early diversion services throughout Ottawa County.
The grant will ultimately help CMHOC strengthen and improve the community’s behavioral health response by providing individuals experiencing a mental health crisis with timely support and connections to care.

Early diversion systems offer opportunities to connect people with appropriate behavioral health services before a crisis escalates to emergency or justice-system involvement.

“This grant represents an important investment in how our community responds to individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis. Creating a stronger, more coordinated behavioral health system for Ottawa County residents” -Dr. Brashears, CMHOC CEO.

Over the next 5 years, this grant will allow CMHOC to work on developing:

• Complete county-wide diversion system mapping and develop Early Diversion Plan with partner referral pathways
• Expand behavioral health stabilization services to reduce justice system involvement and increase dedicated staffing for crisis response
• Launch walk-in and first-responder drop-off Living Room Crisis Services, operating Monday–Friday, 11am–7pm
• Ensure timely follow-up and crisis stabilization plans for those served, connecting them to ongoing behavioral health and/or recovery supports
• Provide peer support, flexible case management, and warm hand-offs to treatment and community resources

This grant will build on CMHOC’s existing efforts such as the utilization of Mobile Crisis Response, as well as the work of the Diversion, Deflection and Recovery and Recovery (DDR) team.
