Dig into gardening with us at De Tuin Klas - Garden to Table! De Tuin Klas, or, The Garden Class, is a series designed with the Michigan State University Extension to help beginner gardeners learn all the basics they need to know to get growing! During this class, Windmill Island Gardens’ Grounds and Horticulture Manager, Emily Van Staalduinen, and husband Parker Barnes will guide participants in learning the when, where, and how’s of planting vegetables along with some tips to care for your plants throughout the growing season, check out our Community Garden (de Gezellige Tuin), and even take home some vegetable seedlings grown right here at Windmill Island Gardens to get your garden started!🌱🍅

🌷Attention Tulip fans! 🌷

The annual Tulip Dig is back this weekend on Saturday, May 30 ONLY! Grab your buckets and tools and join us at Windmill Island Gardens for a 9am sharp start time to dig up tulip bulbs to take home and plant in your own gardens to enjoy next spring. Participants must bring all their own tools and buckets. Buckets must be tagged before entering the park. Bucket tags are $10 per 5-gallon bucket, limit 2 buckets per person, CASH ONLY. NO tags will be sold before 8am, and NO digging will be allowed until 9am sharp when park staff gives the signal to begin.🪏

Digging is only authorized during the Tulip Dig event and in designated locations as shown on the map. 🪏

Mark your calendars! The popular kids summer series Books & Blooms returns to Windmill Island Gardens every Monday from June 15 - August 10! Join our friends from the Herrick District Library for an interactive story time starting at 10:00am each Monday, followed by fun activities led by various community partners through 11:30am!

While the rest of our tulips begin to fade this week as tulip season comes to an end, our horticulture team will be working hard throughout the next few weeks transitioning from tulips to thousands of annual and perennial blooms all throughout the park to enjoy all summer long!

Starting Monday, May 11, we will return to our regular hours with admission sold from 9:30am to 5:00pm and our regular admission of $13 for adults, $6 for youth ages 3-15, and guests 2 and under enjoy the park free! We hope to ‘welkom’ you soon!
