Dear Residents,
Junefest was most definitely a success. I thank our clerk, Rainey, for all the hard work on Friday and through the day on Saturday. We had such positive feedback about the new vendors, the playground and Trackless Train Rides. To our police officers and DPW and Electric workers who were on hand all day, I thank you very much.
To our committee who works all year long on all village festivals, your efforts are invaluable to these events. Thank you to Trustee Rochelle Moroz, business owners, Dave & Becky Gagne, Erika & Wayne Thorn, Jim Mark and Mark Scarborough who both worked the day before and for the entire day on Saturday.
The formal playground dedication is Saturday, June 20 at 11AM. It will be right at the new playground site. Please join us.
Don't forget our special event on Wednesday, June 24 starting at 3PM--Seneca Chief Back-to-Buffalo Tour. A formal ceremony will begin at 3:30 followed by boat tours and hands-on demonstrations. At 4pm, the band of high school and college students, PSA, will entertain. Dottie's Lemonade, Macarollin, Red Osier and Red White & Moo will be on hand for dinner, drinks and dessert, too.
Alongside previously honored historic businesses now included in the NYS Historic Business Registry, Holley Cold Storage and Stockham Lumber, Assemblyman Hawley recognized Hurd Orchards on Friday, May 22. I was happy to have received an invitation and to have been present to listen to their story, and then share my own thoughts about this 201 year old business. The ceremony was held during one of their many luncheons. This one was "The History of Rhubarb". Following Hawley's, Legislator Ed Morgan's and the Village's citations, we were treated to a beautiful dessert table featuring rhubarb desserts. My congratulations to Sue Hurd Machamer, Amy Machamer and Joe and Amelia Sidonio on this family honor.
I've attached a couple of photos of floral decorations that greeted us and the luncheon guests.
Watch for my next letter on Sunday or Monday when my topic will be village elections which are Tuesday, June 16 from noon to 9pm in the Village of Holley office foyer.
Sincerely,
Mark
