As part of our ongoing mentorship program, a group from Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home visited Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home to exchange ideas, observe best practices, and strengthen professional connections. The time was filled with engaging discussions and opportunities for mentors and mentees to share experiences in a supportive environment. The group attended a fun evening at the ballpark to watch the Altoona Curve host the Erie Seawolves. It was an evening of great conversations, lots of laughs, and a perfect way to strengthen connections beyond the workplace.

Special thanks to McDonald’s for once again allowing Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home to utilize their sky box as well as donating free tickets and parking passes for the game! Your continued generosity and community support is very much appreciated! 🤝

The MacArthur Hall residents at the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home enjoy many recreational group activities such as the Chess Club. The club meets every Monday at 6:00 p.m. for a chess tournament where prizes are awarded for 1st place through 4th place. Many of the players explain that besides the benefit of winning a prize, playing chess is a wonderful way to improve concentration and it offers a quiet place for veterans to socialize. The players’ experience ranges from beginners to those with years of experience, but without a doubt the players are always eager to challenge another resident or a visiting staff member. 👏

Every week, Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home residents can participate in an exercise class activity facilitated by staff members of our contracted Physical & Occupational Therapy team, Benchmark Therapies.

Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home hosted a Country Store for their residents last Thursday and Friday in Eisenhower Hall and Arnold Hall. Items at the store came from Veterans Closet, which receives extensive donations from various organizations and individuals. Veterans and their spouses enjoyed perusing the different items and finding the perfect outfit.

Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home MacArthur Hall residents were invited to attend Pine Grove Mills VFW Post #5825 for their Summer Cruise In. They participated in voting for their favorite car and motorcycle. The residents jammed to music and ate supper while they took a look at the vehicles that participated in the show.

Eisenhower Hall residents along with Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home staff took the stage with a talent show last Wednesday. Their audience was taken on a musical tour through the decades with songs such as Hound Dog and YMCA. For this month’s birthday party event, residents enjoyed a rousing music performance by local entertainer Phil McCaulley during his very popular Elvis show. It was a wonderful way to commemorate the 49th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s passing and celebrate the timeless music that brings back so many memories for our residents. Mr. McCaulley typically plays several shows at HVH throughout the year ... and it’s safe to say we are all members of the Phil McCaulley Fan Club!

Concerts by Phil McCaulley and other local talented performers are made possible by donations to our Residents’ Welfare and Activity funds throughout the year. Thank you to the generous community organizations and individuals who help bring this level of entertainment to our residents!

HVH was proud to welcome the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School football team to Eisenhower and Arnold Halls for a “pep rally” style visit to help kick off our hometown team’s 2026-2027 football season.

Our residents enjoyed photo ops with the team, football-themed entertainment, and grilled hot dogs ... because no ball game is complete without a good hot dog!

Please join us in wishing Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School and all our local school districts’ teams a safe and successful season, and a productive school year!
