Important Changes for Ag Exempt Permits:
As you may know, our office does not approve or deny agricultural exemption cards. We are a go-between for the Oklahoma Tax Commission and the citizen. We have been able to help many farmers and ranchers with this service over the years, and we are happy to continue to assist the taxpayers in the application process.
There are new changes coming from the OTC regarding the cards that I want to make sure Harmon County residents are aware of. Our Office is not involved in these decisions and cannot change these regulations or waive these requirements.
According to Oklahoma State Statutes, you must be farming for profit in order to qualify for this card. This will now require proof in the form of a Schedule 1040F, which is filed with your taxes each year. The OTC will now require this to be submitted with the application and it is required to approve your card.
New farmers/ranchers who have not filed a schedule 1040F yet will need to provide a 3-year business plan. This has to be uploaded to the OTC website along with your application for review. Or they may wait until they file the 1040F before they apply.
FFA or 4H students will need documentation provided by their school for us to upload with their application.
After Jan. 1, 2021, if a taxpayer doesn’t have and has not filed a Schedule 1040F, he or she will no longer be able to renew an agricultural exemption card.
To apply for your card you may go to oktap.tax.ok.gov and click on Apply for Agriculture Exemption
