Our office would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the heroes at Hazel Hawkins Hospital Emergency Department and American Medical Response for their incredible lifesaving efforts for the child who was killed.

From AMR Paramedic Grant, to Dr Bogey’s team in the ED of Hazel Hawkins, they worked on this child for hours and were able to get him to a state where he could be flown to Stanford/Lucille Packard for advanced lifesaving efforts.

Though it is not the outcome we had hoped for, we are eternally grateful to have heroes amongst us in our medical field.

On 6/7/2026, at 0014 hours, Deputies from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a “baby not breathing” call at 107 The Alameda in the City of San Juan Bautista.

Upon arrival, Deputy Sheriffs learned of the following:

A 34 year old female was woken up to her boyfriend, Adrian LUJAN, attempting to strangle her.

She was able to “fight him off” and he fled the apartment in a Ford Fusion. A 4-year-old child was present when the attack occurred. The female was unable to locate her two-year-old son in the bed and exited her room to find him on the couch. The baby was blue colored and appeared unconscious.

Medics and Deputy Sheriffs arrived, and CPR was initiated on the child who was not breathing and not alert. He was transported to Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Evidence on the child would tend to support he had been strangled to death.

A manhunt was initiated by our office for LUJAN, and with the help of FLOCK Cameras, officers and deputies in Merced County located him, pursued him, and arrested him after a physical encounter. He returned to our county where Detectives obtained a confession from him in the murder of his child. Motive has yet to be established.

Our office would like to thank the San Benito County District Attorneys Office, our allied Merced County Partners and the California Highway Patrol for their attention to this case.

We mourn the loss of this beautiful child and will pursue justice for him and his family.

Proactive Case highlight!!!

Last night, on 06/02/2026, Deputy Slibsager contacted an adult male, parked in the parking lot of Taco Bell on Tres Pinos Road. Through speaking with the subject, Deputy Slibsager learned the adult male was on probation for a previous offense.

As Deputy Slibsager, and his partner, Deputy Rivas, began conducting a probation search of the male and his vehicle, Deputy Slibsager located two fi****ms inside the vehicle; An unserialized “P80 style” ghost gun, and a small .380 pistol, which had the serial number obliterated.

The adult male was ultimately lodged at the San Benito County jail for several firearm related violations.

Great work to Deputy Slibsager and his team!!

STOLEN HORSES!!!

San Benito County horse community, we need your help!

On 05/16/2026 two horses were reported missing from a large property in the 36,000 block of Airline Highway. After discovering that a portion of the fence had been cut, investigators believe the horses were taken from the property.

On 05/19/2026, investigators spoke with a man who reported being contacted by an unidentified male along the I-5 freeway who was attempting to sell a registered APHA horse somewhere in the Central Valley. After becoming suspicious of the situation, the man left.

After doing his own research, the potential buyer found the victim’s report on NetPosse and contacted the owner, who then notified investigators.

With limited information available, investigators are asking the San Benito County horse community for assistance. If you or anyone in the area has been contacted by someone named John attempting to sell either of these horses, please contact Detective Buscher at 831-265-6948.
