🚒 FIRE RESPONSE | PRUNE STREET

Last night around 9:30 PM, your Hollister firefighters responded to a reported trailer fire in the area of the 1300 block of Prune Street.

The call initially came in as being on Sally Street, but firefighters quickly located the fire in the alley between Sally and Prune Streets.

🔥 Engine 11 quickly knocked down the fire with assistance from Engine 12. Crews also worked to protect all nearby structures from the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this timeand, thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Your Hollister Firefighters are currently assisting on the Little Fire as part of the Monterey County Task Force.

Hollister Fire BC 9204 is serving as the Task Force Leader, while Captain Grewohl and Engineer Hulliger are assigned to Water Tender 52. These photos show Water Tender 52 operating on the incident.

We are honored to stand alongside our neighboring counties during times of critical need, working together to protect lives, property, and our communities.

Statement Regarding Recent Law Enforcement Incident

The Hollister Firefighters are aware of public discussion regarding the high-speed law enforcement pursuit that occurred early in the morning on July 19th.

At this time, the Department states that no individual identified as a driver or participant in that incident is affiliated with, employed by, or acting on behalf of the Hollister Fire Department or its members.

The Department is not involved in the ongoing law enforcement investigation and will defer all questions regarding the incident to the appropriate investigating agency.

The Hollister Fire Department and its members remain committed to serving the community and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement as appropriate.

Earlier today, around 1:00 PM, your Hollister firefighters responded to a reported vehicle fire on Apollo Way. Upon arrival, crews found a semi truck fully engulfed in flames.

Fortunately, the driver was able to disconnect the truck from the trailer before the fire spread, helping to minimize the damage. The driver was not injured, and it was suspected that the fire started from the battery terminal.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control while also protecting a nearby structure from exposure. If you noticed a large plume of black smoke over town this afternoon, this was the cause.

🚨 Wildland Fire Response – Union Rd. at San Justo Rd. 🚨

Earlier this afternoon around 2:45PM, multiple agencies alongside your Hollister Firefighters responded to a rapidly growing wildland fire on Union Rd. across from San Justo Rd.

Initial reports estimated the fire at approximately 20 x 50 feet, but it quickly spread to 10 acres while crews faced challenging access to the fire. Multiple callers reported the incident, and concerns included trapped animals, threatened structures, and a possible barn at risk. Law enforcement was requested to assist, and efforts were made to evacuate animals from the area.

Yesterday evening around 7pm your Hollister firefighters assisted Santa Clara County Fire with a big rig fire that spread into the vegetation in the area of Hwy 25 and Bloomfield Rd.

Engine 14 out of San Juan Bautista and Water Tender 53 from Hollister Fire Station 3 responded to support fire suppression efforts and help contain the fire before it spread further.

Yesterday at approximately 6:30 p.m., Hollister firefighters responded to a wildland fire near the intersection of Highway 25 and San Felipe Road. A new residential development was threatened, requiring firefighters to act quickly to protect homes and stop the fire’s spread.

Every available engine responded, placing San Benito County at Level 0—meaning all local firefighting resources were committed to this incident. If another emergency had occurred, we would have had to rely on fire engines from neighboring counties, if available.

All of this was caused by someone using illegal fireworks.

Fortunately, firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire before it grew larger or caused damage to nearby homes.

This marks the second wildfire in the past two days caused by fireworks. If there was ever a reason to stop using illegal fireworks, this is it.

Remember: If a firework shoots into the air, it’s illegal.

We haven’t had measurable rain in over a month, and our vegetation is becoming increasingly dry. Please help protect our community. One poor decision can put lives, homes, and emergency resources at risk.
