School is back in session this Wednesday, August 26th! As our students head back to the classroom, please plan accordingly and allow extra time for your commute. School buses will be back on the roads picking up and dropping off students, and our crossing guards will be at their posts keeping everyone safe.

Please slow down in school zones, watch for children walking and biking, and be patient with bus stops. Let's all work together to make sure every student gets to and from school safely!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆’𝘀 𝗖𝘂𝗽 𝗜𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸! 🏆🚒

Camaraderie, competition, and community were on full display on Monday, August 17, as our companies gathered for the long-awaited return of the 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘺’𝘴 𝘊𝘶𝘱!

First established in 2017 and continued in 2018, this beloved department tradition faced a multi-year hiatus—postponed in 2019 due to Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) precautions and canceled in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our members were thrilled to finally bring back the friendly rivalry that brings out the very best in our department.

Companies went head-to-head in a series of fast-paced, high-energy evolutions designed to test speed, technical skill, and teamwork:

• 𝗚𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Rapidly stepping into full protective gear under the clock.

• 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Deploying a ground ladder against the structure and advancing two firefighters to the roof.

• 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 & 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Establishing a reliable water supply and feeding water to the aerial ladder truck.

• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝘂𝘀𝗵: Finishing the night with a thrilling, hose-line tug-of-war—pushing a barrel suspended on a high cable to the opposing side using charged streams, all while cheered on by supportive friends and family!

𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀
A very special thank you to the chief officers from the Ashland Fire Department, Framingham Fire Department, Maynard, MA Fire Department, Medway Fire Department, and Sherborn Fire & Rescue Department, who generously volunteered their time to serve as neutral judges for the events. We deeply value the strong bond and mutual respect shared among our area departments.

Congratulations to all of our personnel for showing tremendous skill, pride, and sportsmanship throughout the night!

Thank you to our friends at T.C. Scoops for stopping by the station this afternoon! They brought by some delicious ice cream to help our EMS and fire personnel stay cool on this hot summer day.

𝗥𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀 🚒

On Wednesday night, members of the Holliston Fire Department 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘦 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘮 were out honing their technical skills during a focused low-slope evacuation drill.

When a patient is injured off-road or in steep, uneven terrain, getting them to safety requires precision, specialized rigging, and teamwork. Wednesday's training walked through every critical component of a low-slope litter evacuation, including:

• 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘁𝘀: Essential knot-tying for system security and force distribution.

• 𝗔𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀: Setting up bomber anchor points to secure the rigging systems.

• 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴: Packaging a patient safely and securing the litter for transport.

• 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀: Operating mechanical advantage systems to control movement up and down the slope seamlessly.

Rigorous training on these fundamental systems ensures our team is prepared for complex terrain rescues whenever duty calls.

𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗢𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝟮! 🚒💦

On Wednesday, the crew of Engine 2 stopped by the Holliston Police Department 𝘑𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘈𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘺 at Holliston High School for another session with this year's cadets!

Our firefighters walked the group through the personal protective equipment (PPE) we wear and tools we use to stay safe on the job. To put their own skills to the test, the cadets then took hold of a hose line out on the field and tried their hand at knocking down a few strategically placed traffic cones.

Thanks to HPD for hosting us again, and to all the cadets for showing off some impressive teamwork and aim!

𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀: 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀 🚒💦

On Monday night, members of Engines 3 and 4 were out practicing critical water supply operations and hose deployments.

For our on-call firefighters, mastering these essential skills is a continuous process. Our personnel gather twice a month to drill, refine their techniques, and review the fundamentals—ensuring that when the alarm sounds, our team is sharp, coordinated, and ready to respond.

𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 🚒👮‍♂️

Rain couldn't dampen the enthusiasm at this week's Holliston Police Department 𝘑𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘈𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘺! On Monday, Holliston Fire Department's on-duty EMS crew visited the cadets at Holliston High School for a hands-on learning session.

Even though the weather kept us indoors, our EMS personnel walked the cadets through the world of pre-hospital emergency medical care. We stressed that fire, EMS, and police personnel work side by side as a seamless team every single day to keep Holliston safe and healthy.

𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻: 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗿𝘀

While you often see our fire and EMS personnel responding here at home, several members of the Holliston Fire Department also serve as specialized operators on the Massachusetts Fire District 14 regional teams.

Recently, our members have been deployed across the region for multiple activations with the District 14 Dive Team, Technical Rescue Team, and Communications Team.

These specialized deployments often involve complex, high-intensity operations—and in some cases, multi-day responses. Whether it’s technical rescues, water search and recovery, or establishing critical communications on major scenes, our members step up to provide specialized skills when neighboring communities need them most.

We are immensely proud to support the Commonwealth’s robust mutual aid system and to have our personnel contributing to these vital regional resources.
