💜 Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember.

In 2025, Massachusetts lost 978 people to opioid-related overdose. Each of those 978 people was more than a number. They were parents, children, siblings, friends, neighbors, and loved ones whose absence continues to be felt.

There is also hope in the progress being made. Opioid-related overdose deaths in Massachusetts declined from 1,336 in 2024 to 978 in 2025. The 358 purple flags displayed in the center of Holliston represent the 358 fewer lives lost.

But progress does not mean our work is finished. 978 lives lost is still 978 too many.

HYFS is proud to stand alongside HDAAC and our community partners as we work to reduce stigma, strengthen prevention, expand access to support and recovery resources, and remind our community that help and hope are available.

As National Recovery Month begins tomorrow, we honor those we have lost, celebrate those in recovery, support the people who love them, and recommit ourselves to building a community where people can ask for help without shame or judgment.

Thank you to the First Congregational Church of Holliston for providing a meaningful place for our community to remember, reflect, and recognize the work still ahead. 💜

📚 Tomorrow is back to school for Gr. 1-12 and Thursday for Prek/K!

As we get ready for a new year, we want to make sure all of our new and returning families know where to find us and stay connected.

Please share our newsletter with a friend, neighbor, or another family who might want to follow along. The more families we reach, the more people know where to turn when they need support.

Wishing everyone a great start to the school year!

SAFE Coalition

Meghan Monahan is back at our office this Wednesday offering free grief counseling and support.

This has been an especially difficult week. Many of us have been affected by stories involving child loss, mental illness, and su***de. Whether these events have touched you personally or have simply left you feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to reach out.

You don’t have to carry that weight alone.

Virtual support is also available for anyone who cannot attend in person.

Our Social Skills Groups are back, and we’re excited for another year of helping children build confidence, friendships, and lifelong social-emotional skills!

At HYFS, we offer social skills groups throughout the year for a variety of ages. Based on feedback from families, we’re especially excited to offer multiple groups this year for Placentino and Miller students, where we’ve seen the greatest interest.

We also offer programming for middle school students, high school students, and young adults throughout the year, with new opportunities added based on community need.

💙 Not sure if a group is the right fit? We’d still love to hear from you!

Completing our Interest Form is not a commitment to participate. It simply helps us understand what families are looking for so we can continue creating programs that reflect the needs of our community.

✨ If there’s a group you’d like to see, tell us! Your feedback helps shape future HYFS programming.

It’s our favorite time of year at HYFS! Twice a year, we pause to reflect on the work we’ve done, celebrate our successes, talk honestly about our challenges, and set goals for the months ahead.

We always begin with a conversation about our values because they are the foundation of everything we do. They keep us focused, guide our decisions, and ensure we continue meeting the evolving needs of the Holliston community.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to have a team that is passionate, thoughtful, and deeply committed to serving the residents of Holliston.

A truly remarkable program for families in need.
