Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you felt something wasn’t right but weren’t sure what to do? You’re not alone! Bystander intervention in crucial part of preventing sexual assault and creating a safe environment for everyone. Here is a simple guide to help you ACT!
Assess the situation: Trust your instincts! If you see something that doesn’t feel right, a person looking uncomfortable or a situation escalating, take a moment to evaluate what you are seeing.
Communicate your concern: You don’t have to confront anyone directly if that makes you uncomfortable or unsafe. Use a distraction technique! You could ask for directions to a dorm or another place. This can shift the focus and give the person a chance to exit the situation safely.
Take Action: If it feels safe to do so, get others involved. Whether it is asking for help from a friend nearby or contacting leadership, there is always someone to help, and you don’t have to do it alone.
Every ACTion counts. By stepping in, you can make a difference and help create a culture of respect.

It is crucial to recognize that both men and women can be victims of sexual assault within the military. Unfortunately, societal stigma often makes it more difficult for men to accept this reality and reach out for help. But you are not alone, and there are resources available for you. The DoD Safe helpline has created a Safe HelpRoom resource specifically for military male survivors of sexual assault. This moderated group chat service is a secure online environment where male survivors of sexual assault in the military can connect with and support one another. If you believe you have experienced sexual assault and are a male service member, we encourage you to visit Safe HelpRoom | Safe helpline to find information about June’s special men’s sessions. The Safe Helpline offers a variety of other resources as well, including a chat feature, information on getting help, and answers to common questions victims may have. Remember, reaching out for support is a sign of strength. You deserve to be heard and supported.

This week, the Holloman SAPR team is thrilled to be hosting a 40 hr. Volunteer Victim Advocate Course and would like to shine light on the incredible work of our Volunteer Victim Advocates (VVAs). These remarkable military members go above and beyond, providing crucial non-clinical crisis intervention and ongoing support to adult survivors of sexual assault. Their dedication plays a vital role in the success of our SAPR program, ensuring that our hotline is manned 24/7, as well as assisting in the planning and ex*****on of training and outreach events. Their commitment to making a difference in the lives of others is truly inspiring.

Wow! Can you believe it has already been two weeks since we wrapped up SAAPM with the epic Combat Challenge!?! If you missed this event, let me say, you missed a seriously good time! We had 9 incredible teams competing in a wild race that kicked off with a tire flip (talk about a workout)! But the real brain buster? A 50-piece puzzle in the shape of a whale that left some teams scratching their heads. Once the puzzle was solved, they tagged their teammates who had to row 500 meters like Olympians! Next up, target practice with Orby guns. After hitting their targets, teams had to haul a hefty 200-pound dummy 10 yards to a gurney where they zig zagged around cones to the track, where they tagged their next teammate in the beginning of the 4x100 relay race! Well…except for the marines who had one guy run the whole track!! The excitement was palpable, and the fastest team took home the first pick of an incentive experience! A massive thank you to everyone who showed up to cheer on these amazing squadrons, your support made the event even more special! We can’t wait to do it all again next year, so mark your calendars and get ready for more fun and challenges! A special thank you to Col. Rosales and all the leadership teams who helped make this event a reality! And shout out to New Mexico Desert Sno and Lemon Shake Up for coming out to sell their goodies!

This Friday is the much-anticipated SAPR Combat Challenge! Teams will meet at the football field at 0800 with the event kicking off at 0900. If you haven’t already signed your squadron for a team, time is running out. You do not want to hear about how fun this event was, you want to be a part of the fun!!! New Mexico Desert Sno & Lemon Shake Up will be out with their food trucks for you to purchase from. Come cheer on your favorite squadron as these airmen battle it out for some great prizes…and bragging rights!

CANCELED !!! Unfortunately we regretfully have to cancel the Pedal For a Purpose event scheduled for Friday 18 April at 1500. As many experienced, the winds today were crazy and they are expected to be just as bad tomorrow. That is definately NOT bike riding weather. Thank you to all who shared the post and to those who had planned to join us. We have two more events before SAAPM is over. Please stop by the BX on Wednesday 23 April for Denim Day and come out and support various squadrons on Friday 25 April as they compete in SAPR's Combat Challenge at the football field.

Join us for our exciting scavenger hunt!
Get ready for an adventure from April 7-11. We invite active-duty military members, their dependents, and civilian employees to participate in our thrilling helping agency scavenger hunt!
The scavenger hunt kicks off at the SAPR Wing office, where participants will pick up their sticker card and their first riddle. Each riddle will lead you to a different helping agency. You will visit two helping agencies each day, wrapping up on 11 April.
The first few teams to successfully complete the scavenger hunt will win their choice from a selection of fantastic prizes, including gift certificates for local bakeries, a gift certificate for a photography session, a Stanley lunchbox, and more!

Join us as we kick off a series of engaging events to raise awareness and promote prevention!
April 7-11: Get ready for our Helping Agency Scavenger Hunt! Civilians, dependents, and active duty are all welcomed and encouraged to participate for a chance to win exciting prizes! The scavenger hunt lasts all week with participants visiting different helping agencies each day.
18 April: Don’t miss our Pedal with a Purpose bike ride. Join us for a family friendly bike ride around the golf course. Don’t have a bike? Stop by Outdoor Rec and let them know you are renting a bike for this event and receive your rental for 50% off!!
April 23: Denim Day! Swing by the Base Exchange and visit our Denim Day table, where you can grab some swag and learn about this impactful campaign, one of the largest sexual assault awareness initiatives.
Ending the month strong: Join us for a Combat Challenge at the football field! Active-Duty members can sign their squadron up for a team using the QR code on the flyer, for friendly competition, with teams competing in various physical and non-physical challenges for incredible prizes, including F-16 Fam flights, EOD, and much more!
