A few weeks ago, we had another Rookie Book awarded to A1C Sgueglia that I unfortunately missed posting about, and I owe both you and your family an apology. I am truly sorry and I know how much it means for each of you to see your family members grow in their career.

While this milestone was being presented, I was away from the station. I knew I had missed something important, but at the time I could not pinpoint exactly what it was.
Even though it may seem like we post about these accomplishments often, earning a Rookie Book is far from insignificant and is certainly not easy. Completing a Rookie Book requires dedication, long hours, and a strong commitment to learning the job. The process includes more than 100 individual task sign-offs along with seven written assignments covering critical knowledge and skills.

These tasks are not simply checked off because someone attempted them — the member must demonstrate true proficiency and competency before earning each sign-off. Completing a Rookie Book represents countless hours of training, studying, hands-on performance, and mentorship.
Congratulations to A1C Sgueglia on this outstanding accomplishment and on reaching an important milestone in their career. This achievement reflects hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence. Well done.
Congratulations to outstanding achievement.

Please join us in congratulating (S) SrA Joshua A. Paculan on being awarded the Air and Space Commendation Medal for Outstanding Achievement.

(S) SrA Paculan distinguished himself through exceptional performance as a Lead Firefighter while deployed with the 11th Combat Air Base Squadron, 11th Air Task Force, supporting operations across the Indo-Pacific region.

During REFORPAC 2025, the largest Pacific joint exercise since World War II, he integrated with the Saipan International Airport Fire Department to enable 61 Air Task Order sorties across 50 islands, directly supporting over 12,000 Airmen and 400 aircraft.

During ULCHI FREEDOM SHIELD 2025, he led three-member teams during hot pit refueling and flight operations, enabling 4,800 gallons of fuel for five F-16s, directly supporting 25 sorties and 33 flight hours across the INDOPACOM theater.

Additionally, while working alongside the Anderson Air Force Base Fire Department, he led a 14-member team in pump testing seven fire trucks valued at over $4 million. His efforts certified all vehicles for emergency response operations and qualified 21 Airmen as Pumper Driver Operators, increasing the unit’s driver pool by 60 percent.

His dedication, professionalism, and leadership directly contributed to mission success and helped earn the Wing Team of the Quarter Award.

Congratulations to (S) SrA Paculan on this well-deserved recognition. Your hard work and commitment reflect great credit upon yourself, the fire service, and the United States Air Force.

Today we recognize a huge milestone for A1C Bearden as he officially completed his Rookie Book and earned his traditional helmet and FF shield.

Finishing a rookie book is no small accomplishment. It represents countless hours of training, studying, hands-on learning, and proving yourself day in and day out. It takes dedication, resilience, and a commitment to becoming a dependable member of the fire service team.
Earning your regular helmet and shield signifies that you’ve moved beyond being “the rookie” and have demonstrated the knowledge, work ethic, and professionalism expected of a firefighter.

Congratulations to A1C Bearden on this outstanding achievement. We’re proud of the hard work he has put in and look forward to watching him continue to grow in the fire service. Well earned!

Unfortunately, we can never predict when, or how often tragedy strikes the same group of people. But even so, we are still a very blessed group, and have much to be thankful for.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 2nd, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Phil Reeder was at home asleep when a smoke detector woke him up, and it’s a good thing it did. His home was in flames, and he was barely able to get out, suffering smoke inhalation and some burns in the process. Thankfully, his wife Tammy was already at work when this happened, but sadly, 2 of the family’s 3 dogs did not make it out. Except for the sweatpants Phil wore to bed the night before, everything was lost in the fire.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for the Reeder Family. If you are able to give, please do so, regardless of the amount, as everything will help, and everything will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

On April 20, 2026, a families world changed forever.

They lost SSgt Alexy “AL” Alcantar (March 30, 2000 – April 20, 2026) — a loving husband, devoted father, and a brother to all in the fire service. Al was the kind of man who made people feel seen, valued, and never alone. He brought light to the hardest days, and his quiet strength carried those around him when they needed it most.

His greatest pride and purpose in life was his family. He loved his wife and two young children beyond measure and worked every day to give them the life they deserved.

Now, his family faces an unimaginable future without him.

As we mourn this tremendous loss, we are asking our community, friends, and extended family to come together in support of those AL loved most. We are raising funds to help his wife and children with immediate and future needs as they begin to navigate life without his steady presence, guidance, and love.

Every donation — no matter the amount — will go directly to supporting AL’s family. If you are unable to give, we ask that you please share this post and keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Let’s honor AL the way he lived — by showing up for others.

Thank you for standing with his family during this time of heartbreak and healing.
