Update: B&E Investigation

The Holly Ridge Police Department is actively coordinating with surrounding agencies as this investigation remains ongoing.

We are committed to keeping you informed and will provide updates regarding arrests or specific ways you can further assist our efforts.

Stay Vigilant:
πŸ”’ Keep vehicles locked.
πŸ’‘ Leave exterior lights on.
πŸ“± Monitor camera alerts.

Thank you for your continued help in keeping our community safe.

🚨 IMPORTANT COMMUNITY ALERT 🚨

Neighbors, we need your help and your vigilance!

We have seen an increase in Breaking & Entering (B&E) reports lately. These suspects are becoming bolderβ€”recently, an individual was spotted walking our streets in a mask during the evening hours when many residents were still awake.

To keep our neighborhood safe and discourage this activity, please follow these 4 Essential Safety Steps:

πŸ”’ LOCK Your Vehicles: Do not leave doors unlocked, even for a few minutes. Most thefts are "crimes of opportunity" involving unlocked handles.

πŸ’‘ LIGHT Up the Night: Keep your porch and exterior lights on from dusk until dawn. Well-lit properties are much less attractive to intruders.

πŸ“± CHECK Your Cameras: If you have a doorbell camera or security system, pay close attention to your alerts. Even if you don't see a crime, suspicious footage can help identify patterns.

πŸ‘€ STAY Watchful: Keep an eye out for each other. If you see something that doesn't feel right, don't hesitate to report it.

Let’s work together to look out for one another and keep our community secure. Please SHARE this post to spread the word to all our neighbors!

On 04/16/2026, Detective Thompson arrested 21-year-old Richard Gary Penaluna IV. Penaluna is currently facing the three counts of Second Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

The arrest followed a CyberTip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force regarding the upload of child sexual abuse material to a social media platform.

Penaluna was processed at the Onslow County Jail and issued a $100,000 secured bond.

The Holly Ridge Police Department is committed to combating the distribution of child sexual abuse material. In North Carolina, any person under the age of eighteen filmed or photographed engaged in sexual activity or displaying their genitalia in a sexually explicit manner is considered child sexual abuse material.

The safety of our children is a collective responsibility. The Holly Ridge Police Department encourages parents and guardians to remain vigilant and monitor their children's online activity.

If you have any knowledge regarding Richard Gary Penaluna IV or these incidents, please contact Detective Brandi Thompson at 910-329-4076 ext 202.
