I was invited by Lejeune High School to attend their end of the year school awards and to present Ms. Madison her certificate for participating in The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest.

The Auxiliary has been presenting the many scholarships across the VFW/VFWA to the Lejeune High School Medal of Honor Advisory Group for the 2025-2026 school year and look forward to continuing the partnership. The students not only learn about scholarships to continue higher education, they learn about the many benefits the VFW/VFWA has and how the VFW advocates for veterans benefits in Congress.

I asked our VFW Post Trustee and District 5 Adjutant to join me in presenting the award to Madison.

VFW Post 9983 Senior Vice Commander, Rick Greene and Auxiliary members, Guard, Debbie Greene, Conductor, Jackie Hale, Treasurer, Barbara Donaldson, and Pat Frissell took part in The Town of Holly Ridge’s Memorial Day Ceremony.

SVC Rick Greene gave the Commanders comments. Jackie Hale, read the POW/MIA table content meaning, while Pat Frissell dressed the table with the items. Barbara Donaldson handed out “Buddy” Poppies to over 75 community members.

The weather was absolutely beautiful to honor our fallen service members and to remember their service and sacrifice to our country!

Tonight the Auxiliary recognized Renovation Community Group for their support of the VFW Post 9983. Once a month they have volunteered to cook a homemade meal for the veterans at the Post.

This monthly meal ensured that veterans in the community had a place to gather for a homemade meal, enjoy camaraderie with others and a home away from home.

We thank the ladies that gave of their time and service to others.

The Auxiliary participated in the VFW Days of Service for the month of May. By vote of the Auxiliary we choose Lauren’s Hope in Surf City to host a Diaper and Wipes Drive. The Auxiliary members know how to answer the call of service for sure. We not only collected 20 packages of diapers and wipes but other baby essential gear.

These items will help a young mother get started in her motherhood journey.

Thank you to all who donated to the cause from both the Auxiliary and Post. Without your support we would not be as successful as we are.

Tonight our Auxiliary Officers for program year 2026-2027 were installed. I was honored to have Ms. Deborah Crowder, District 5 President/Department Secretary/Chief of Staff be our Installing Officer.

To the Auxiliary Officers, I look forward to serving with you all and having another successful year.

To the membership, the officers you have elected can not be successful without you…with that, Thank You for continuing to show up, supporting the veterans and simply being amazing! I’m in awe of your kindness and care you show everyone!

The May calendar is out and fresh off the printer. Stop in and grab one to hang on your fridge so you don’t miss anything. While you’re at the post grab a bite to eat and a cold beverage of choice.
