FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, officers with the Holly Springs Police Department arrested and charged 38 year-old Grady Downs of Holly Springs with Receiving Stolen Property.

Officers conducted a traffic involving Downs in the area of Highway 7 North, which ultimately led to his arrest. Following the investigation, Downs was taken into custody without incident.

Downs was transported to the Marshall County Sherrif's Department where he was processed and housed pending bond.

The Holly Springs Police Department continues to work diligently to protect the community and investigate criminal activity within the city.

On Friday, April 24, 2026, officers with the Holly Springs Police Department reported to the firing range to complete their rifle qualifications. Fi****ms qualifications are conducted twice annually and are part of the department's commitment to maintaining proficiency, safety, and readiness in the field.

These qualifications are documented and reported to the Mississippi Board of Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training and contribute towards the state-mandated requirement of 24 hours of annual training.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, during the regular scheduled board meeting for the city of Holly Springs, approval was granted to hire two officers for the Holly Springs Police Department.

Mr. Freddie Braddic was hired as a Sergeant and will serve as a night shift patrol supervisor. Ms. Mikiya Vaxter was hired as a part-time patrol officer.

Chief Glover expressed his enthusiasm about the department's newest additions, stating that he looks forward to the positive contributions both officers will bring to the team.

On Wednesday, April 15th, staff at the Holly Springs Police Department was visited by Brittany Norphlet of North Mississippi Exchange Family Center of Oxford, Mississippi. Care packages equipped with teddy bears were dropped off to be distributed. Date: March 23, 2026

Subject: Arrest Made in Connection with Dog Mauling Incident.

On Monday, March 23, 2026, investigators with the Holly Springs Police Department arrested 54 year old Sandra Harris of Holly Springs in connection with a recent dog mauling incident that resulted in severe injuries to the victim.

Harris has been charged with Aggravated Assault - Manifesting Extreme Indifference to the value of Human Life (Miss. Code Ann. 97-3-7(2)).

Following her arrest, Harris was processed at the Holly Springs Police Department and subsequently transferred to the Marshall County Sherrif's Department where she is currently held.

This incident remains under investigation. No additional information will be released at this time.

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at approximately 5:20a.m., officers with the Holly Springs Police Department responded to the area of Hwy 178 East near the eastern city limits after receiving a report of an injured person.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a partially clothed female lying in a shallow ditch with what appeared to be Multiple large laceration covering a significant portion of her body. The victim was conscious and was able to inform officers that she had been attacked by.dogs.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and the victim was stabilized before being airlifted to Regional One Health in Memphis, Tennessee for treatment.

Investigators have since interviewed a person of interest believed to be a potential owner of the dogs possibly involved in the attack. The Holly Springs Police Department continues to actively investigate the incident.

Investigators have remained in contact with the victim at Regional One, as well as the victim's mother and sister in Oxford, who has been identified as next of kin. We are thankful that the victim is now able to speak, as there were no witnesses reported at the scene. Investigators hope to gather additional information that will assist in determining the full circumstances of this incident and holding those responsible accountable.

On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the city of Holly Springs unanimously approved Pastor Marquis Gooden of Revive Church in Holly Springs to serve as the official Chaplain of the Holly Springs Police Department.

Pastor Gooden has faithfully served as a featured pastor for Bible studies within the Police Department, and in his new role as Chaplain, he will continue to provide spiritual guidance, encouragement, and support to officers and members of the community.

Pastor Gooden is welcomed by Chief Grant Glover and Assistant Chief Dwight Harris. We are honored to have him serve in this important capacity. Welcome aboard Pastor Gooden!
