Holly Township Parks & Recreation has several FREE, educational and family-friendly programs coming up this fall. Mark your calendars and join us!

🐝 CHILDREN’S BEE CLASS
📅 Saturday, September 19 | 1:00 p.m.
📍 Sorensen Park Nature Center
5142 E. Holly Rd., Holly, MI

Donna Boshell, President of the Northwest Oakland Bee Association, will introduce children to the fascinating world of bees! Kids will get to see bees inside a safe observation hive of wood and plexiglass (weather permitting), sample honey on ice cream and crackers, watch a video presentation, and participate in an art project.

⚠️ Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to 20 children, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

💧 PFAS AWARENESS WEEK PROGRAM
📅 Tuesday, September 22 | 6:00 p.m.
📍 Holly Township Library

Don Walsh, Vice-President of Stantec and President of Keepers of the Shiawassee River Trail Group, will discuss PFAS—what these man-made chemicals are, their health effects, and why they persist in our environment.

A representative from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will also be available with literature and to answer questions.

🐦 BACKYARD BIRDS — A Program by Lee Burton
📅 Wednesday, October 7 | 6:00 p.m.

Bring the family and learn about our backyard birds—including winter visitors—their songs, what to feed them, and how to attract them to your yard. You’ll even pick up a few tips for keeping squirrels from hogging all the food!

🌧️ HOLLY TOWNSHIP BEACH CLOSED — SEASON ENDS TODAY 🏖️

Holly Township Beach will be closed today, Sunday, August 30, 2026, due to rain, cooler weather, the possibility of thunderstorms later today, and anticipated low attendance.

Today was scheduled to be the final day of the 2026 beach season, so this closure officially brings our season to an end.

We want to thank everyone who visited Holly Township Beach this summer, as well as our beach staff who helped make the season possible.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another summer at the beach in 2027!

🌿 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — INVASIVE SPECIES REMOVAL AT SORENSEN PARK! 🌿

Help us protect and improve Sorensen Park!

📅 Friday, August 28, 2026
⏰ 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 Sorensen Park

Holly Township Parks will be working to remove invasive autumn olive and oriental bittersweet from the park, and we welcome members of the community who would like to lend a hand.

You don’t have to stay for the entire four hours. Come anytime between 8:00 AM and noon and help for as long as you’re able.

For your safety and comfort, we recommend:

🌿 Long pants
🌿 Long sleeves
🥾 Closed-toe shoes
🧢 A hat

Removing invasive plants helps protect native vegetation, wildlife habitat, and the long-term health of Sorensen Park.

Future invasive species removal dates will also be planned, so there will be more opportunities to get involved.

Holly Township Parks & Recreation appreciates the help of our community as we work together to protect and preserve this wonderful community asset. 🌳

⚠️ BOATING & FISHING SAFETY REMINDER AT HOLLY TOWNSHIP BEACH ⚠️

We want everyone enjoying Bush Lake to have a safe and enjoyable day on the water.

Michigan law requires vessels operating near a buoyed or occupied swimming area to maintain a distance of at least 100 feet, except under circumstances permitted by law, including when proceeding at slow no-wake speed.

This applies to watercraft on the lake, and Michigan law also specifically establishes a 100-foot safety requirement for personal watercraft such as jet skis.

🎣 A special reminder to those fishing near the beach: Please give the designated swimming area plenty of room. Fishing lines and hooks near the swim area can create a safety hazard for swimmers and can become caught on the ropes and buoys that mark and protect our designated swimming area.

Our swim ropes and buoys are there to provide a clearly designated area where our guests, including children and families, can safely enjoy the water.

Please help us protect our swimmers and our beach equipment by keeping a safe distance from the designated swimming area.

🚨 Beach Schedule Update

Please note the following upcoming changes for Holly Township Beach:

🌿 Beach Closed
Thursday, July 30 and Friday, July 31
The beach will be closed both days so aquatic w**d treatment can be safely completed.

🕕 New August Hours
Beginning Saturday, August 1, Holly Township Beach will be open daily from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

⚠️ Air Quality Closure Notice

Due to poor air quality conditions, Holly Township Beach and the Sorensen Nature Center are closed today, Friday, July 17, 2026.

The health and safety of our visitors and staff are our top priority. We encourage everyone, especially children, older adults, and those with asthma, COPD, or other respiratory conditions, to limit prolonged outdoor activity until air quality improves.

We appreciate your understanding and will provide updates as conditions change.

🌧️ Beach Closed for the Evening 🌧️

Due to the forecast for intermittent thunderstorms and rain, Holly Township Beach is closed for the remainder of this evening.

Weather conditions can change quickly, and the safety of our visitors and staff is always our top priority. While the skies have cleared for the moment, the forecast called for the potential of storms, and staff had already been released for the day.

We appreciate your understanding and hope to see you back at the beach soon!
