🚔 VIOLENT CRIMES DETECTIVES MAKE ARRESTS IN ARMED ROBBERY & ASSAULT INVESTIGATION

On Sunday, August 30, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Hollywood Police officers responded after a victim reported she had been assaulted, robbed, threatened with a firearm and a Taser. All, while being held against her will by two suspects.

Hollywood Police Department Violent Crimes Detectives immediately began working the case, conducting a thorough investigation that led to a search warrants being served at a residence as well as the suspects’ vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, both suspects were taken into custody and charged with Armed Robbery, Armed False Imprisonment, and Aggravated Battery with a Weapon, among other charges.

This arrest is another example of the dedication and determination of our Violent Crimes Detectives. From the moment this crime was reported, they worked diligently to identify those responsible, gather the evidence needed to make the arrests, and ensure the victim received the support and justice she deserves.

Violent crime has no place in our community. The Hollywood Police Department remains committed to holding those who victimize others accountable and keeping our residents and visitors safe.

Great work by everyone involved in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion.

Today, we remember Officer Byron W. Riley and Officer Philip C. Yourman. Officers Riley and Yourman were partners on patrol and were responding to a purse snatching at the Hollywood Fashion Center. During a pursuit with the suspect vehicle, their vehicle spun out of control, striking a tree. Both Officer Riley and Officer Yourman were sadly killed in the crash. These two Officers made the ultimate sacrifice and will always be remembered.

It was a momentous day for members of the Hollywood Police Department, City of Hollywood, and our residents! We were so proud to share our ribbon cutting ceremony with our community as we mark a new chapter for HPD. Our new headquarters is officially open and ready to serve our citizens! Thank you all for making today so special!

🚗CHILD CAR SEAT SAFETY REMINDER🚗

The Hollywood Police Department wants to keep your little ones safe on the road!

According to Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website:
-Seat Belt: A child should remain in a booster seat until he or she is big enough to fit in a seat belt properly. For a seat belt to fit properly, the lap belt must lie snugly across the upper thighs, not the stomach. The shoulder belt should lie snug across the shoulder and chest and not cross the neck or face.
-Booster Seat: In Florida, children ages 4 through 5 must be in a separate carrier, integrated child seat, or booster seat. Once a child outgrows a forward-facing car seat, children can travel in a booster seat, always in the back seat. If a vehicle does not have a backseat, the booster seat should be used with the air bag turned off.
-Forward-Facing Car Seat: A child should remain in a rear-facing car seat until he or she reaches the top height or weight limit allowed by the car seat’s manufacturer. Keep a child rear-facing as long as possible, usually until age 2 or 3. If the vehicle does not have a backseat, the forward-facing car seat should be used with the air bag turned off.
-Rear-Facing Car Seat: A rear-facing car seat is the best seat for a child under age 2 to use. Infant-only seats can only be used rear-facing. Convertible and 3-in-1 car seats typically have higher height and weight limits for the rear-facing position to keep a child rear-facing for a longer period of time. If the vehicle does not have a backseat, the rear-facing car seat should be used with the air bag turned off.

🎓 CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR GRADUATES! 🎓

This past week, Lieutenant Michael Ferriani and Sergeant Carl LeBlanc graduated from the Florida State University Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program.

The nationally recognized CPM Program is an intensive leadership and professional development program designed to strengthen the effectiveness of public-sector managers and leaders. The program consists of eight levels completed over two years, totaling 300 hours of instruction focused on leadership, team and organizational performance, strategic planning, ethics, systems thinking, policy development, and contemporary issues in public management.

We are extremely proud of Lt. Ferriani and Sgt. LeBlanc for completing this rigorous program and for their continued commitment to professional growth, leadership, and excellence in public service.

Today, members of the Hollywood Police Department Honor Guard, alongside members of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department Honor Guard, had the privilege of representing our agencies at Monster Jam 2026 at Amerant Bank Arena.

Together, our Honor Guard members proudly presented the colors during the opening ceremony, joining thousands of fans and families for a special moment of patriotism before the action began.
