The Hollywood Police Department is aware of social media posts and online discussions encouraging potential “teen takeover” gatherings within our city. We want to remind parents, guardians, and young people that large unsupervised gatherings can become unsafe and may lead to traffic disruptions, and other dangerous situations.
The Hollywood Police Department, Broward Sheriff’s Office, and FHP are working together and will have a visible presence near Dania Pointe and Oakwood Plaza.
The safety of our residents, visitors, and youth remains a top priority. Officers will be deployed throughout the city in areas where large gatherings are anticipated. HPD is also monitoring social media accounts for those posting about these unpermitted events.
Our officers will be actively monitoring unlawful behavior including disorderly conduct, trespassing, reckless driving, intentionally blocking roadways, vandalism, disturbing peace, or any activity that threatens public safety.
We are also encouraging community members to report any suspicious activity or unsafe behavior to law enforcement as soon as possible.

🚗CHILD CAR SEAT SAFETY REMINDER🚗

The Hollywood Police Department wants to keep your little ones safe on the road!

According to Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website:
-Seat Belt: A child should remain in a booster seat until he or she is big enough to fit in a seat belt properly. For a seat belt to fit properly, the lap belt must lie snugly across the upper thighs, not the stomach. The shoulder belt should lie snug across the shoulder and chest and not cross the neck or face.
-Booster Seat: In Florida, children ages 4 through 5 must be in a separate carrier, integrated child seat, or booster seat. Once a child outgrows a forward-facing car seat, children can travel in a booster seat, always in the back seat. If a vehicle does not have a backseat, the booster seat should be used with the air bag turned off.
-Forward-Facing Car Seat: A child should remain in a rear-facing car seat until he or she reaches the top height or weight limit allowed by the car seat’s manufacturer. Keep a child rear-facing as long as possible, usually until age 2 or 3. If the vehicle does not have a backseat, the forward-facing car seat should be used with the air bag turned off.
-Rear-Facing Car Seat: A rear-facing car seat is the best seat for a child under age 2 to use. Infant-only seats can only be used rear-facing. Convertible and 3-in-1 car seats typically have higher height and weight limits for the rear-facing position to keep a child rear-facing for a longer period of time. If the vehicle does not have a backseat, the rear-facing car seat should be used with the air bag turned off.

Today, Officers Sommer and Lata welcomed students from Brauser Maimonides Academy to City Hall, where they spoke about what it means to be a police officer and the important role law enforcement plays in serving and protecting the community.

Students had the opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of the profession, ask questions, and gain insight into a career dedicated to public service, integrity, and helping others. Along with other City officials and representatives from various departments, students also learned how different teams work together to keep the City running smoothly and provide essential services to our community.

We thank the students and staff from Brauser Maimonides Academy for visiting and for their interest in learning more about law enforcement. Opportunities like these help build positive relationships, strengthen community partnerships, and inspire future leaders.
