🏆🚒 FIRST SEASON. FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP. HOLLYWOOD TAKES THE TITLE! 🥎🔥

Over the last eight weeks, members of Hollywood competed in the inaugural St. Mary’s County Volunteer Fire Departments Softball League—and what a season it was!

Yesterday, our team entered the doubleheader playoff bracket ready to battle. Hollywood first took down Seventh District VFD, punching our ticket to the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME against Leonardtown VFD.

The championship game did NOT disappoint.
Heading into the final inning DOWN BY 6 RUNS, our team refused to go home quietly, Our team rallied, battled back, and exploded offensively to take a TWO-RUN LEAD! Then it was time to seal the deal

Our defense held Leonardtown in a nail biting final inning, sealing the comeback and capturing the championship! 🏆🥎🚒

This victory was built over eight weeks of practices, teamwork, determination, and great morale. Every player contributed, and this team showed what it means to battle together until the very end.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out week after week to cheer us on and support the team. We also want to thank Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department for putting this league together and Andersons Bar for hosting throughout the season.

LVFD Unable To Overcome HVFD Nuthouse's Late-Game Surge

HVFD Nuthouse snatched the lead late in their 14-12 victory over LVFD on Sunday. HVFD Nuthouse were down 12-11 in the top of the seventh inning when Alan tripled, scoring three runs.

Bats blistered as HVFD Nuthouse collected 15 hits and LVFD tallied 18 in the high-scoring game.

HVFD Nuthouse got on the board in the top of the first inning after JW singled down the left field line, and T Brady hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

LVFD tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Chase, and a line out by Keith.

LVFD captured the lead, 8-2, in the bottom of the third after Kip singled to the left side of the infield, Scott singled to the left side of the infield, J Matt singled to center field, Tommy singled to center field, Jim singled, and Shane hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

HVFD Nuthouse flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring eight runs on four hits to take the lead, 14-12. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Alan on the sixth pitch of the at-bat that drove in three.

JW stepped in the circle first for HVFD Nuthouse. The starter gave up 18 hits and 12 runs over seven innings, striking out none and walking four. Tommy started in the circle for LVFD. The hurler gave up 14 hits and 12 runs over six innings, striking out none and walking six.

HVFD Nuthouse accumulated 15 hits in the game. T Brady, Ricky, Jordan, Alan, Zach, and Patrick each collected two hits for HVFD Nuthouse. Alan and Zach each drove in three runs for HVFD Nuthouse. Bill led HVFD Nuthouse with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. HVFD Nuthouse were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Ricky had the most chances in the field with six.

LVFD collected 18 hits in the game. Keith provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led LVFD with three runs batted in. Chase went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead LVFD in hits. Shane, Tommy, Chris, J Matt, and Scott each collected multiple hits for LVFD. Jim led LVFD with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting four walks for the game. LVFD were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Chase had the most chances in the field with six.

Our most recent company drill was spent introducing members to our newly-purchased FAST Board, a rescue device designed by FAST Rescue Solutions

The FAST Board is designed specifically to simplify and expedite the removal of an incapacitated victim, be it firefighter or civilian, from a myriad of challenging spaces.

Training on the FAST Board will take place in phases, instructed specifically by our certified personnel, who completed the FAST Board Train the Trainer course with NDW Fire & EMS earlier this year.

This past drill night, certified FAST Board trainers from our mutual aid partners at NDWF&ES Co.13 Pax River joined us with one of their FAST boards to assist with rolling this rescue device out to our firefighters, as we expand our department’s rescue capabilities. Multiple companies throughout St. Mary’s County are in the process of demo’ing and purchasing the FAST Board, to expand rescue capabilities county wide.

🔥Engine, Truck, Squad and Chief run mid morning house fire. 🔥

At 09:47 this morning while units from Mechancsville and Engine 73 were operating on a crash, a Structure Fire assignment was dispatched to the 38000 block of Manor Rd. In company 5s first due.

Engine 73 was released by command of the crash and requested to run the house fire assignment.

Chief 5B arrived on the scene to find and 2 story house with smoke showing from all 4 sides and fire showing from side C.

Engine Tanker 54, Engine 73, and Tanker 2 all arrived simultaneously. Engine 73 deployed a second attack line and stretched through side A to the first floor and began fire attack.

Truck 7 arrived on the scene as the 2nd due ladder truck and was originally deployed to assist on the first floor but then re assigned to the second floor to assist with extinguishment.

Chief 7 assisted at the command post

Units remained on scene for approx. 2.5 hours before returning to service.
