Since 1925, Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety has been dedicated to protecting our community. What started with just 19 firefighters and two pieces of equipment has grown into a department of nearly 300 personnel operating out of six stations with over 20 emergency response vehicles. Not only do we provide fire and emergency medical services, but we also respond to calls for hazardous materia

ls, technical rescue, flooding, fire inspections, and much more. Our Ocean Rescue lifeguards are also available to respond to water rescues and medical calls on our beach. Our mission remains the same—enhancing the quality of life and safety for everyone in the City of Hollywood. We’re proud of our history and excited for the future!

As summer storms intensify across South Florida, Hollywood Fire Rescue is reminding residents of the essential steps to stay safe during lightning activity.

➡️ When thunder roars, go indoors — If you can hear it, you’re close enough to be struck.

➡️ Avoid open areas such as beaches, fields, and pools.

➡️ Stay clear of tall structures that can attract lightning.

Lightning is unpredictable, but preparation and awareness significantly reduce risk. Hollywood Fire Rescue encourages everyone to stay alert and make safety a priority throughout the storm season.

Smoke from two brush fires in western Miami‑Dade County is drifting northeast, creating hazy skies and smoky conditions across parts of South Florida, including right here in Hollywood.

Most people may only notice mild irritation, but anyone with asthma, COPD, heart conditions, or other respiratory issues should limit time outdoors if smoke is present in their area.

If you smell or see smoke, keep windows and doors closed, stay indoors when possible, and monitor local air quality updates.
