This post from Millstone caught our attention.

Not because every town has the power to stop major utility infrastructure projects, but because it shows what can happen when residents are informed early, ask hard questions, and demand transparency before projects become irreversible.

In Holmdel, many residents are only now realizing the true scale and impact of the ongoing JCP&L / Energize365 work throughout our community.

According to public statements, discussions surrounding these projects date back to 2023. Yet many of the details, visibility, and long-term implications now concerning residents were never broadly discussed in a way that fully prepared the public for what was coming.

That is a problem.

At CILU, we believe:• Residents deserve transparency.• Major infrastructure changes should involve meaningful public communication.• “Trust but verify” should apply to utility companies, developers, consultants, and government alike.• And protecting Holmdel’s Master Plan and community character requires vigilance long before construction begins.

This is bigger than utility poles.

It is about whether residents are informed participants in shaping the future of their town or are simply informed after decisions have already been made.

We are incredibly concerned to see the scale of this massive JCP&L electrical infrastructure project now impacting Holmdel’s landscape and character. Residents deserve transparency on how this happened, what approvals were granted, and whether more could have been done to protect our community from this level of visual and environmental blight.

We encourage everyone to contact your Township Committee members and ask the important questions:
•What led to this project moving forward in this form?
•What safeguards were negotiated?•What can still be done to mitigate the damage and protect Holmdel going forward?

Community engagement matters most before decisions become permanent. Have information or want to join our team? Join us here: https://www.holmdel-cilu.org/memberships

Protect our Drinking Water, say no to the Sewer Extension in Southern Holmdel.

Protect our Drinking Water, say no to the Sewer Extension in Southern Holmdel.

💦 It sounds like a solution… until you look a little closer.

Extending sewer infrastructure into protected areas might seem like progress; cleaner, more modern, more convenient. And on the surface, that’s understandable.

But here’s what often gets missed:

Sewers don’t just serve development — they enable more of it.

Since its founding in 1998, CILU has stood firm on two essential principles of responsible land use: protecting the value of septic systems and exercising extreme caution when it comes to expanding sewer service.

Why does this matter—especially during Drinking Water Week? Because these decisions directly impact the quality and sustainability of our clean drinking water, the health of our environment, and the character of our community.

By advocating for thoughtful planning, CILU works to safeguard our natural resources and prevent overdevelopment that can strain our water systems.

đź’¦ Happy Drinking Water Week!

Did you know that Septic Systems and Waste Water Treatment Plants act like a mini-recycling loop?

They return treated water directly to the soil, which eventually refills local aquifers that feed the Swimming River Reservoir.

Moreover, when you switch to a sewer, that water is instead piped miles away to a central treatment plant.

It is often discharged into a river or the ocean rather than being returned to the grounds beneath your feet.

Overtime this lowers the Water Table and can lead or contribute to drought conditions
