Move Over, Slow Down

Pennsylvania’s Move Over Law requires drivers approaching an emergency response area who are unable to safely merge into a lane further away from the response area to slow to at least 20 mph less than the posted speed limit. An emergency response area is where an emergency vehicle has its lights flashing, or where road crews or emergency responders have lighted flares, posted signs, or try to warn travelers.

The Law

Act 105 of 2020, signed on October 29, 2020 and effective 180 days later on April 27, 2021:

Creates a new point system that imposes two points for failure to merge into the lane not next to the emergency response area.
Sets fines at $500 for first-time offenders, $1,000 for a second offense, and $2,000 for a third or subsequent offense.
Requires a 90-day license suspension for a third or subsequent offense. The license suspension also applies to incidents that seriously injure or kill another person. The suspension is six months if the person injured or killed is an emergency service provider or was near a disabled vehicle.
Sets additional fines of up to $10,000 for violators who injure or kill an emergency service responder or a person in or near a disabled vehicle.
Doubled fines for several traffic violations when committed in an emergency response area when first responders are present.
A similar law (Title 75, Section 4572.2) requires motorists to move over or slow down when approaching a stationary trash or recycling truck.

To keep our members and residents safe from Covid-19, the company will not be selling flowers this Easter and Mothers Day. We ask that you follow our page for future fundraising announcements.

Covid-19 has made it difficult for our company and many other fire companies to raise money this past year and we appreciate all the support we have received.

Recently, our 2021 fund drive letter was sent out and we ask if you could please look it over and send in your annual fund drive donation.

Thank you in advance for your continued support.

It is with deep regret that the Holmes Fire Company announces that this year’s annual Christmas tree sales will be canceled due to concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic. With the current spike in COVID-19 cases, we feel this is the best course of action to protect not only our members, but also the customers who will come to support the Fire Company. We are hopeful that we will be able to resume the tree sales in 2021.

With our Christmas tree sales now being cancelled, all fundraisers conducted by the Fire Company throughout the past year have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our direct mail fund drive will be sent out in early 2021. If you are able to, look for that letter and donate to support the Holmes Fire Company.

Happy Holidays from the Officers and Members of Holmes Fire Company.

There have been many social media posts today reflecting on relationships with Mike. Every one is completely accurate. Mike was a friend to so many in our service. He was also the supplier for our dress uniforms. In a recent conversation amongst members about Mike, it was said that a man is only as good as his word and that his word is his bond. That is how Mike treated everyone. He gave you his word and that held more weight than any contract or written agreement. We lost a good one today. He will be truely missed.
Rest in piece friend.

It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we must report the passing of Deputy Chief Emeritus and 50 year Life Member Edward “Mike” Rush. Deputy Chief Rush joined the Wilmington Manor Fire Company in 1970 and held numerous positions spanning his 50 years of active service. Mike was an iconic figure in the fire service, both here in Delaware, as well as neighboring states. His love for his family, the fire service, and the United States Marine Corps was evident with everyone he knew. Mike was also an active member of the Christiana Fire Company as well as an honorary member of many others. Once service details are finalized, they will be posted. Please keep Mike, the Rush family, and his fire service family in your prayers.

Sorry to learn of the passing of Rick Orrell, Jr. He was Chief when I first joined the fire co. in July of 1972. We had a lot of good times together over the years and he will be sadly missed by all of us members past and present.
Memorialize your past and fallen firefighters with an affordable bronze memorial statue. We offer these incredibly detailed statues in two sizes. A sixteen inch high, thirty pound version of solid bronze and marble perfect for the home or firehouse and a life-sized solid bronze outdoor version that can be the focal point of your firehouse. We engrave your company shield, one to several names and your preferred message on the plaque. For further information Richard 321 804 4642 - www.bronze-depot.com
