Random pictures of the big boys: Caesar, Hannibal & Big Apple.

We have 3 skulls w/ horn caps, fresh out of the pond. Two of them are rough & one is in the process of whitening. The rough ones have been cleaned up but are not whitened.

If you are interested in a half or whole bison we will be taking a group in to be processed at the beginning of November. Let me know & we will get you on our list.

If you are interested in a skull or meat you can call or text 785-275-3015 or email [email protected] or shoot us a message here on Facebook.

Bison are not domesticated & they are not puppy dogs. When a bison "speaks", ignore them at your own risk! Be a responsible tourist, not a "Tour-on" (tourist moron)! Put your phone down & pay attention or be prepared to pay the "tour-on" tax with your hide!

'Whoops, we did it again' - We had another late 'Red Dog' at the DK pasture. That is two, very late, new babies in 10 days up there. Our bull Big Apple went 9 for 9 with the eligible cows. Usually, bison have an 85-90% pregnancy rate, overall we went 17 out of 18 with our eligible cows. Bison families are very close. Notice big brother (yearling) licking his little brother in the last photo. Bison are such big, scary animals!

I went up north to our DK pasture this past weekend & found an August surprise baby. Momma did not choose the best weather to have her baby. The heat index all week has been well over 100 degrees but he seems to be doing well. Besides being very late, he is also the smallest of all of the calves we have ever had. I would say he is probably only about 30 pounds. Usually when we have 'Red Dogs' they around 40 pounds. His momma is one of our smallest females, but everything seems good with him, he is just a little smaller.

It's so easy to make friends! You just have to have something they want, or maybe, if you just sit down to eat with someone, you understand each others point of view better. Take little miss Zoomie. Her point of view is that I have cubes & I should feed her as many as possible, every day!

It's always fun to meet new guests who come to Crown B Bison to take a tour. We especially enjoy when we have tourists from outside of the United States visit our ranch. The past two weekends we have seen a group of Japanese school kids who were visiting Abilene as part of their sister-city program with Omitama, Japan & we were fortunate to have once again the Fullbright scholars who are visiting KSU to spend 3 weeks learning how to be an American before they head all over the country to further their educations by earning masters or doctorates before they return home in 2 years. We are winding down our 4th summer & amazingly enough we have had visitors from nearly 60 countries & every continent as well as 47 states. It is wonderful to get to meet these visitors & to have them meet our herd & learn about the iconic North American Plains Bison.

'The Rut' (mating season) is underway in the pasture from July to October & Caesar is a busy boy. The continued growth of the herd is on his massive shoulders. Some bull bison can loose up to 15% of their body weight during the Rut. Their hormones are on overdrive & they are busy "courting" the girls & forget to eat. My man Caesar is not one of those guys. He is still putting away the grass & corn & cubes when he gets the chance. He gets the job done (7 out of 8 this year) without all the theatrics & stress like some bulls. Even though he DOES NOT drink Dos Equis, we like to think of Caesar as 'The Most Interesting Man in the Pasture". He definitely is the face of Grace Under Pressure & it allows 'the Rut' to be high intensity, low drama in our home pasture.

We added BISON BRISKET cuts for all you bbq people. $18/lb

'MOM, HE WON'T STOP LICKING ME!' - Bison are very curious & life revolves around the herd. When somebody new comes into the pasture, even a new bison, they will be thourghly investigated. This 2 year old young bull, just wanted to say 'Hello & welcome to the herd newbie', but this 2 day old 'Red Dog' wasn't having any of it.

Zoom, zoom - We've got a runner! This little 'Red Dog' had too much energy the other morning, but he knew when daddy "Big Apple" came along it was time to get out of his way. His little friend he was trying to get to run with him picked a bad time to join in on the fun.

If you want to join in the fun & meet the herd we have 2 more weeks of bison tours seven days/week. Then it's back to weekend tours only. Call, text or email us to reserve your spot!
