FIRE REPORT for Jackson Co, Ks 06/05/2026

A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

The rangeland fire danger index will be in the low category this afternoon.

Low fire danger means...controlled burns can be executed with reasonable safety.

Check with local authorities to ensure burning is allowed before starting a planned burn.

We are allowing burning today please call 785-364-3123 before starting your burn.

Remember that all permits expired Dec 31, 2025. You can pick a new one up at any fire dept in Jackson county.

Most of you know we are expecting severe weather this afternoon. The weather people are telling us this afternoon could, emphasis on "could", become a particularly bad afternoon for all modes of severe weather.

If you do not have access to a shelter, the basement at the police department will be open and available.

The only request we have is that you do not hang out in front of the building or in the lobby. It is distracting to the dispatcher who will be extremely busy and will not likely have time to answer questions. Please go to the basement on arrival. Parking is limited so do not park in front of or block any of the garage doors.

The Holton Police Department would like to congratulate Officer Aaron Daniels on his recent graduation from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. During the 14 week basic training officers are required to successfully complete all phases of the 560 hours of instruction. Aaron will complete his field training with the Holton Police Department in the next few months. Congratulations Aaron.

With the first snow and the cooler temps this is just your friendly reminder to not forget your pets....... PLEASE if you have pets outside make sure they have ADEQUATE shelter {this means a wooden or insulated doghouse {preferably facing the south or east} to get into!!! If you are cold when you are outside, then they MIGHT be cold also. Remember they are God's creatures just like we are.......Yes, some dogs like the cooler weather but PLEASE give them the choice by supplying a shelter. If you don't like being outside and cold all day, they probably don't either. They rely on you for their safety, health and happiness. Any questions or concerns please feel free to call and we will get back to you or do a welfare check on the animal. 785-364-2174 If you need bedding for your pets you might check with the local humane society and see if they have any!
