Sunny, with a high near 93. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

The rangeland fire danger index will be in the low category this afternoon.

Low fire danger means...controlled burns can be executed with reasonable safety.

Check with local authorities to ensure burning is allowed before starting a planned burn.

We are allowing burning today please call 785-364-3123 before starting your burn.

Remember that all permits expired Dec 31, 2025. You can pick a new one up at any fire dept in Jackson county.

The 4th of July is coming and here are the rules and reminders for the fireworks. Enjoy and be safe!!! Fireworks may be fired starting June 27 thru July 5th. The hours are from 8am to 11pm every day EXCEPT July 4th and the hours are 8am to midnight.

The City of Holton Police Department is accepting applications for the position of full time Public Safety Dispatcher. Applicants must be 21 years of age, possess a valid drivers license, be able to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screen. Benefits include BC/BS health and dental Insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, KPERS retirement plan.
Desired Minimum Qualifications:
United States citizen
High School Diploma or equivalent
No serious misdemeanor or felony convictions
Good physical condition
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to meet City of Holton residency requirement
This position is responsible for operating emergency fire apparatus
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Most of you know we are expecting severe weather this afternoon. The weather people are telling us this afternoon could, emphasis on "could", become a particularly bad afternoon for all modes of severe weather.

If you do not have access to a shelter, the basement at the police department will be open and available.

The only request we have is that you do not hang out in front of the building or in the lobby. It is distracting to the dispatcher who will be extremely busy and will not likely have time to answer questions. Please go to the basement on arrival. Parking is limited so do not park in front of or block any of the garage doors.
