Temporary Office Closure Notice

Due to an unexpected family situation, I will need to be out of the office this week. With staff already scheduled to be out today and tomorrow, and an additional staff appointment this afternoon, our office will unfortunately need to close today, Monday, August 17, from 2:45–4:30 p.m.

We anticipate resuming normal office operations Tuesday morning. We will provide an update if anything changes.

Our new Notary Fraud Alert service helps protect your notary commission by notifying you whenever a recorded document includes your name as the notary. JACKSON COUNTY, REGISTER OF DEEDS IMPLEMENTS NEW LAND RECORDS SOFTWARE

July 21ST, 2026 - The Jackson County Register of Deeds Office is excited to announce the implementation of new software: AVID, into their office. Jackson County worked with Fidlar Technologies, to implement the new technology via data conversion, installation and training sessions.
With AVID, the county will be utilizing the latest technology in land records document management.

Major new enhancements include:
•Powerful reporting features, allowing the county to track important metrics and data on the office.
•Efficient workflow, improving turnaround times from when a document is submitted to when it is recorded.
•Hosted environment keeps the office functioning in the event of a disaster while also keeping the document images and information secure.

In addition to the AVID land records system used by the Register of Deed’s staff, the office is also rolling out two new search programs for the public, Laredo and Tapestry.
•Laredo is a robust and powerful tool for professional users. By signing up for a subscription with the county, users can search for the Official Public Record via the Laredo client and via a browser with Laredo Anywhere. Fidlar Technologies offers many training webinars and documentation for anyone interested in becoming a Laredo user. Just visit www.fidlar.com/laredo.aspx for more information.
•Tapestry is an online browser-based search tool that gives the public access to searching the Official Public Record with a per search fee. Designed to be easy-to-use for the general public and more experienced searchers, you can visit Tapestry at www.landrecords.com or via the link on the county’s website. In addition, if assistance is needed, Fidlar Technologies will be available for support via phone or email during business hours.

This transition is about more than implementing new software—it's about providing better public service to the people of Jackson County. Along with faster processing, improved online access, and enhanced efficiency, we're excited to offer an enhanced Property Fraud Alert system, along with our new Notary Alert service, to help protect our citizens and keep them informed. These services provide greater peace of mind by notifying property owners and commissioned notaries of activity that may require their attention. Our office remains committed to preserving the integrity of Jackson County's land records while embracing technology that makes our services more secure, accessible, and efficient. Our goal is to make our office more efficient, more accessible, and more responsive to the needs of everyone we serve. Temporary Recording Service Interruption

Due to an unexpected hard drive failure on our main recording computer, the Jackson County Register of Deeds Office is temporarily unable to process recordings while our IT department works to restore service.

We can still accept your documents and will securely hold them in the order they are received so they can be recorded as soon as our system is back online.
Copy requests are not affected and will continue to be processed as normal.

The good news is that we are scheduled to go live with our new recording software on Tuesday, July 21, which will allow us to process recordings from our individual workstations and provide greater flexibility moving forward.

We understand this interruption may be an inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize for the disruption. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to get everything back up and running.

📢 Public Budget Review

Jackson County residents are invited to review the proposed 2027 county budgets during a public budget review meeting on:

Department heads will be available during this time to answer questions and provide information regarding their proposed budgets for the upcoming fiscal year.

As we celebrate the freedoms and history that make our nation unique, we're reminded that local government plays an important role in serving our communities every day. From preserving important records to supporting elections and public services, county offices are proud to be part of that tradition.

Our office will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. We wish everyone a safe, happy, and patriotic Fourth of July! 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Fun Fact #1: The Declaration of Independence was officially adopted on July 4, 1776, although many delegates actually signed it weeks later.
🏛️ County Connection: Local government is one of the oldest forms of government in America. County offices help carry out many of the same principles our founders valued—keeping public records, administering elections, collecting taxes, maintaining roads, and serving citizens close to home.

🇺🇸 Fun Fact #2: The first Independence Day celebrations included bonfires, bells, fireworks, music, and community gatherings—traditions that continue nearly 250 years later.
🏛️ County Connection: Many county departments help make local Fourth of July celebrations possible by supporting public safety, emergency services, parks, road maintenance, and event permits.

It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of a friend and colleague, Kent Schnakenberg.

Over the years, he assisted our office with many of our record book orders through Navrats, always providing exceptional service, kindness, and a genuine willingness to help. Beyond his professional work, he dedicated countless hours to educating and supporting those living with Type 1 Diabetes through Team Schnak, making a positive impact on many lives and families.

On behalf of the Jackson County Register of Deeds Office, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, coworkers, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of service, education, and compassion will not be forgotten.

Today at the Register of Deeds Association June Seminar, I was honored to receive my official Certified Kansas Register of Deeds certification plaque from the Association President.

When I took office, I made a commitment to serve the citizens of Jackson County with professionalism, accountability, and a willingness to learn every aspect of this position. Earning this certification during my first year in office was important to me because I believe elected officials should continually invest in their knowledge and skills to better serve their communities. My goal is to aim for gold level Recertification each year after receiving my Certification, and I am already fairly close to achieving that!

I'm proud of the work we've accomplished so far, including reducing our office budget for the second year in a row while continuing to provide the quality service our residents deserve. This certification is just one more step in my ongoing commitment to being the best steward possible of this office and the public trust placed in me.

Thank you to the Kansas Register of Deeds Association for the education, support, and opportunity to grow in this role. I look forward to continuing to serve Jackson County and building on the progress we've made together.

UPDATE: As of 10:40 am, we appear to have our services restored and are now able to successfully record documents again. We hope the issue is fully resolved and that we will have no more issues between now and the implementation of our new recording system in July. As always, we will update if anything changes!

⚠️ Recording Service Update – Register of Deeds Office ⚠️

Unfortunately, we are once again experiencing system issues with our current recording vendor. At this time, we are unable to record documents either electronically or at the counter until the vendor is able to identify and resolve the issue.

We understand how frustrating and inconvenient these continued disruptions are for our customers — and honestly, for our office staff as well. We share your frustration with the recurring outages and the lack of timely support being provided.

Our office is very much looking forward to transitioning to our new recording vendor in July, which we hope will greatly improve the reliability and stability of our recording services moving forward.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we wait for our current vendor to restore service. We will provide updates as soon as they become available.
