Busy Sunday Evening for Station 58

Sunday evening kept Station 58 crews busy with two major incidents in less than two hours.

Shortly after 5:00 PM, crews were dispatched to Douts Hill Road in Martic Township for a woods fire caused by a controlled burn that got out of control. Approximately one-half acre of woods was involved. Brush 58, Tanker 58, Engine 58-1, and Engine 58-2 responded, with assistance from The Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company New Danville Fire Co. , and West Willow Fire Company . Crews worked for an extended period extinguishing the fire and conducting mop-up operations.

Less than an hour after clearing the scene, Station 58 was dispatched to the Susquehanna River for a water rescue involving a patient on Peavine Island. Utility 1 crews hiked in from Lock 12 while Marine 582 and Marine 89 Robert Fulton Fire Company accessed the scene by water. The patient was located in critical condition, treated by responders, and ultimately extricated by boat to the Muddy Creek Boat Launch and transferred to EMS. Additional assistance was provided by Airville Volunteer Fire Company , with Marine 53 (Conestoga Fire Company) serving as the RIT boat.

Thank you to all mutual aid companies that assisted throughout the evening, as well as Engine 47-2 Paradise Leaman Place Fire Company and Pumper-Tanker 62 Witmer Fire Protective Association for standing by at our station during the woods fire.

Great teamwork by all involved during a busy evening serving our communities.

Today, the officers and members of Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company proudly join communities across our nation in honoring the true meaning of Memorial Day.

This day is more than the unofficial start of summer or a long holiday weekend — it is a time to pause and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day will never be forgotten.

As firefighters and first responders, we understand the meaning of service, commitment, and sacrifice. We are humbled by the heroes who answered the call to serve our nation and made the ultimate sacrifice for others. Memorial Day reminds us to reflect on their bravery and to keep their families, friends, and fellow service members in our thoughts and prayers.

We encourage everyone today to take a moment to honor those who never made it home — attend a local ceremony, visit a memorial, fly the American flag proudly, or simply spend a quiet moment in remembrance. Because of their sacrifice, we are able to live freely and safely in this great nation.

As always, Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company remains open for service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — holidays included. While many are spending today with family and friends, our dedicated volunteers stand ready to answer every emergency call that comes in. Some of our members may leave cookouts, family gatherings, and other plans at a moment’s notice to respond when our community needs help. That level of dedication and commitment is what volunteer fire service is all about, and we are incredibly proud of every member who continues to serve selflessly today and every day.

From the officers and members of Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company, we extend our deepest gratitude to all who have served and especially to those who gave everything for our country. Their legacy lives on through the freedoms we cherish and the communities we proudly serve every day.

This past weekend, the 58 House (House on the Hill) responded to four calls for service.

On Saturday afternoon shortly before 4:30 PM, Engine 58-1 was dispatched to a horse and buggy accident on Drytown Road. Chief 58, Assistant 58, Engine 58-1, and Utility 58-2, along with EMS units, made the response and found a horse and buggy that had run off the road and rolled over.

While crews were operating at the scene, we heard LEMSA MICU 56-5 being dispatched to a medical call on Pencroft Drive North. With the incident only a few minutes away and the MICU responding from Quarryville, Utility 58-2, staffed with EMTs, added themselves to the call as a QRS unit to assist.

Sunday afternoon shortly after 1:00 PM, Engine 58-1 responded to a two-vehicle accident on Stump Road. Crews assisted with fluid control and debris cleanup.

Then on Sunday evening just after 11:00 PM, Engine 58-1 and Fire Police 58 were dispatched to Holtwood Road and Buck Heights Road for a vehicle into a pole with wires down.

We would like to thank all assisting agencies for their teamwork and cooperation throughout these incidents. Stay safe!
