Special thanks goes out to the individuals that are currently, or have been a part of our organization over the years! You all have made this organization what it is today! Yesterday, our Fire and EMS team participated in a training with AirCare 3 out of Dubuque. During the training, our team learned more about when helicopter transport may be beneficial for a patient, as well as the safest and most effective ways to establish a landing zone on scene.

We are grateful to have AirCare 3 as well as other helicopter agencies as a valuable resource, helping us provide high-quality emergency care to our community when it’s needed most.

2 Berks County Firefighters were killed in the Line of Duty Saturday, when the UTV vehicle they were driving was struck by a car on Rt 222. At around 1800 Saturday, multiple fire companies, Berks Search and Rescue, and others were searching for a missing 60-year-old woman in the area of Kutztown Road in Richmond Township, just north of Route 662. Fire Chief Jeffory L. Buck and Assistant Fire Chief Robert R. Shick Jr., both with the Walnuttown Fire and Rescue Company, were in a UTV side-by-side vehicle and were traveling on the shoulder of Kutztown Road. A male driver of a Toyota Camry was also traveling south on Kutztown Road. The Toyota Camry was reported to be swerving on the roadway. As it approached the Firefighters, it traveled off the roadway and struck the UTV head-on. The occupants of the Camry were arrested after they fled the scene. Much more to follow. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in peace.

We recently were awarded $500 donation from The Iowa Pork Association for using Iowa pork at our fundraising breakfast. Special thanks to the Iowa Pork Association for the generosity. As always thanks for all the donations and support to make our fundraisers a success.

The weather was perfect this past Sunday and so was the support shown by all of you. We served a record amount this year landing at 1125 meals. Thank you for joining us for breakfast! Your presence and generosity added to the success of the event. We are honored to have you in our corner as we continue to work towards serving our community the best we can. Our 50/50 winner was Karen Ludovissy and she generously donated a good portion of her winnings back. Thanks again!!

Saturday night January 17 we held our annual awards banquet/ Christmas party. Several active and retired members and spouses were in attendance as well as our fire association boards members. It was a great time reminiscing with current and past members. We also handed out some awards which included the following.
Kenny Potter - 20 years of service
Jeanne Hefel - 10 years of service
Jeff Ploessl 10 years of service
Tim Koehn - Retired with 19 years of service
Rookie of the Year- Catie Dean
Member of the year- Greg Wulfekuhle
