Joint Investigation Leads to Arrest and Recovery of a Trafficking Weight of Crack-Co***ne

Holyoke, MA – Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced that a joint investigation yielded a trafficking weight of crack-co***ne and the arrest of 49-year-old Michael Laboy.

Over the past few weeks, members of the Hampden County Narcotics Task Force and Hampden District Attorney’s SAFE unit received information that Laboy was conducting a drug distribution operation out of his apartment in a building at 527 South Summer Street.

Detectives then applied and were granted a search warrant for his home.

Around 6:00 a.m., on Thursday, members of the Holyoke Police Narcotics Vice Unit, Hampden County Narcotics Unit and Hampden District Attorney’s SAFE Unit executed the search warrant.

More than 51 grams of crack-co***ne was recovered and Laboy was placed under arrest.

49-year-old Michael Laboy of Holyoke is charged with:

🚨 Press Release Update: Hartford Police Investigate Homicide 🚨

Hartford Police officers responded to the area of 149 Magnolia Street following a ShotSpotter notification.

Upon arrival, officers located a parked vehicle with an unresponsive female in the driver’s seat suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers also located a second female on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. That victim, a female in her thirties, was transported to an area hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

During the course of the investigation, a suspect was developed. Through investigative means, the suspect was determined to be staying in a hotel room in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

Members of the Hartford Police Major Crimes Division, Massachusetts State Police, and the Holyoke Police Department responded to the hotel. The hotel was evacuated, with the exception of the suspect’s room. Massachusetts State Police established contact with the suspect in an attempt to negotiate his surrender.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the room and refused to exit. After a several-hour standoff, it was learned that the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions continue to investigate this incident.

Holyoke Detectives and Officers Arrest Three Armed Robbery Suspects and Recover a Loaded Firearm

Holyoke, MA – Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced that Holyoke Police Officers arrested three armed robbery suspects and recovered a large capacity firearm.

On Tuesday at approximately 3:45 p.m., Holyoke Police Officers Kennedy and J Rivera responded to Pine Street for a gun call.

Officers Joshua Rivera and Joshua Salas made contact with a juvenile victim who had attempted to conduct a sneaker swap with another juvenile.

Three subjects arrived for the swap but instead robbed the victim of his sneakers and one suspect allegedly showed the victim a firearm in his waistband. The suspects fled the area.

Officers Rivera and Salas then coordinated with Detectives and Officers for this investigation. Detectives and officers were able to identify all three suspects.

Officers located two suspects on Beech Street, and they were placed under arrest; 18-year-old Rey Torres and a 15-year-old juvenile male.

Officers later located the third suspect involved on Dwight Street. After a brief foot pursuit, officers arrested this 15-year-old male.

Officers then applied for and were granted a search warrant for an apartment on Beech Street. During the search, officers recovered the stolen sneakers, a large capacity firearm and 38 rounds of additional ammunition. The firearm was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The names of the juveniles involved will not be released due to their age. Chief Keenan urges anyone conducting an online transaction to do so at the police department. If an individual involved does not want to meet at the police department, that alone is a red flag.

Holyoke Police Recover Illegal Firearm Left Unattended in a Bag with Fentanyl and Co***ne

Holyoke, MA – Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced that Holyoke Police Officers’ proactive policing, averted a highly dangerous situation, where a loaded firearm was left unsecured and unattended with various drugs inside a bag.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., Saturday, Detective Sergeant Dustin Summers, Detective Ashley Feliciano, Detective Eric Rodriguez and Officer Abelardo Barta were working a specialized detail to deter gang activity, when they observed a motorcycle rider without a helmet in the area of Maple Street and Suffolk Street.

The rider, later identified as Joshua Rodriguez, eventually stopped near 173 Elm Street. Officers approached Rodriguez, who did not have a license. During a search of Rodriguez, officers located seven vials of co***ne. Rodriguez was placed under arrest.

While on scene and unrelated to this arrest, Officer Hayden Hamilton observed another motorcycle with no license plates parked on Elm Street. The motorcycle's registration was cancelled. On the unregistered motorcycle, officers located a bag. Inside the bag, officers recovered a loaded firearm with a flashlight attachment, 181 bags of suspected he**in/fentanyl, 47 vials of suspected co***ne, 23 baggies of suspected co***ne and more than $200 in cash.

The unattended firearm was loaded with seven rounds of ammunition.

Holyoke, MA – Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan joined the United States Attorney’s Office to participate in the Holyoke Safe Neighborhood Initiative Basketball League on Friday June 5th.

At the request of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Chief Keenan was the guest speaker at the James Jackson Courts on South Canal Street. This is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods You Can Be Anything You Want to Be speaker series.

Chief Keenan spoke with kids, coaches and parents involved in the Safe Neighborhood Initiative. The basketball league is for Holyoke youth in 3rd-6th grades.

Two Suspects Arrested, Crack-Co***ne, He**in and Cash Recovered

Holyoke, MA – Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced on Sunday June 7th, Holyoke Police Officers seized crack-co***ne, he**in and cash after responding to an apartment building for reported drug activity.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., Holyoke Police Sergeant Brendan Boyle, Officers Hayden Hamilton, Nilda Hernandez and Abelardo Barta responded to the area of 31 Franklin Street for a report of drug activity.

In a Franklin Street alleyway, officers observed two subjects, later identified as Eddie Concepcion and Radames Escalera.

Officers recovered crack-co***ne and suspected he**in/fentanyl from Concepcion.

More than $1000 in cash was seized. Officers recovered a lighter in the shape of a firearm from Concepcion and a BB Gun in Escalera’s pocket.

The officers also seized two hand-held radios which are often used by “lookouts” to alert those involved in the drug trade of a police presence.

In total, 160 vials of crack-co***ne and 87 bags of suspected he**in were recovered.

Loaded Firearm, Trafficking Weight of Fentanyl Seized from Wanted Armed Suspect

Holyoke, MA – Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced on Friday June 5th, members of the Hampden County Narcotics Task Force, the Hampden District Attorney's SAFE Unit and Holyoke Police Officers recovered a trafficking weight of Fentanyl and a loaded firearm while arresting a wanted suspect.

On Friday, a Holyoke Police Detective, assigned to the Hampden County Narcotics Task Force was working with members of his Task Force, the SAFE Unit and Holyoke Police Officers in an attempt to locate Justin Pabon.

On June 3rd, Pabon was allegedly involved in an altercation where he brandished a firearm. Officer Andrew Urbanski applied for and was granted a warrant for his arrest.

On Friday around noon, Pabon was located walking in the area of High Street and Appleton Street. At the sight of law enforcement, he ran away and attempted to hide inside a business near the 400 block of High Street.

Law Enforcement Officers entered the business and located Pabon hiding in a bathroom. He was placed under arrest. Pabon allegedly was trying to flush suspected fentanyl down the toilet. Additional suspected fentanyl was seized, and a loaded firearm was recovered.

In total, approximately 823 bags of suspected fentanyl were seized.

Holyoke Police Narcotics Unit & DEA Springfield Task Force Seize Illegal Firearm from Juvenile

Holyoke, MA – Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced on Wednesday June 3rd, Holyoke Police Detectives working with DEA Task Force Officers recovered a high-capacity Ghost Gun.

On Wednesday, members of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Springfield Task Force and Holyoke Police Narcotics Unit were conducting enforcement in the city.

Officers received information that a juvenile in a vehicle was armed. Officers located the vehicle near 230 Maple Street and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as a 17-year-old male, was detained. The juvenile had a suspected license and was placed under arrest.

Inside the vehicle, officers recovered a high-capacity Ghost Gun that was loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 22 rounds.

Due to his age, the suspect's name will not be released.

Holyoke, MA – Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced on Tuesday June 2nd, officers seized he**in, co***ne, crack-co***ne, ma*****na and cash while working a Mobile Community Policing (MCP) detail.

Around 9:15 p.m., Sergeant Michael Everett and Officer Nathan Cote were working a MCP detail under the direction of Captain Charles Monfett.

This detail includes officers conducting walking tours of specific sectors of the city, interacting with citizens with a focus on trespassing and narcotics use during property checks to help improve the quality-of-life for our citizens.

That evening, these officers were conducting a property check at 542 South Bridge Street. Officers observed four subjects inside an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle has been parked in a space on private property and police have requested the property management company have it towed several times.

At the sight of police, the four subjects fled. Inside the vehicle, officers recovered a man purse. Inside the purse, officers located approximately 88 bags of suspected he**in, 153 vials of suspected co***ne, loose crack-co***ne rocks, ma*****na and $108 in cash. All narcotics were seized.
