“The pain of losing our beloved son and the way in which he was killed will always be in the front of our minds and cannot be forgotten. There has to be good that comes from this tragedy,” said Jennifer Ponish, Kai’s mom. Kai was killed in a hit and run accident on May 14, 2016, in Pine Township, Indiana County. The 16-year-old was walking home from a party when he was hit. He was a sophomore at H

omer-Center High School.

“We want to keep Kai’s name alive in the community. As people move on with their lives, they will naturally think of him less and less,” said Ponish. “Our goal is to remind people what an amazing person he was and ‘pay it forward’ by encouraging in others the behaviors that Kai demonstrated regularly.”

Carrying on Kai's legacy by giving back to the communities he loved, we have established a scholarship in Kai's memory to benefit future graduates of Homer-Center High School. We also engage in community service as a way to keep his memory alive through positive action. Please join us at our annual fundraiser, the Kai Paul Hrabovsky Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament held each May. This tournament is structured in order to promote unity within our community and to grow the scholarship fund to the point of virtual immortality.

As many of you already know, we run these yearly fundraising events primarily with your generous donations. It's a big part of how we maximize the net contribution to the Kai Paul Hrabovsky Memorial Scholarship Fund from each year's tournament. True to Kai's style, this things designed so that even the shaggy-haired youngster can help support the scholarship simply by coming down with a couple bucks and an appetite. If there's anything Laney enjoys doing the most, it's keeping ya'll fed.❤️

We've learned over these 9 events to focus a list so that we can minimize waste and maximize impact, so please give our updated list below a good look-see when you reach out to Elaine, she tries to keep it up to date as live-time as possible. 😋
