I can't tell you how many great memories we have made snuggled up with great read alouds, stopping along the way for discussion and questions. One thing is for sure: You will never regret that time spent together and the shared experiences and travels it will bring you!❤️📚

Some friends and I were talking about the Adventures with Waffles book I shared about earlier this week and Kayce said

“Good read alouds are like a family quilt. They knit you all together with memories and give warmth in the hard times.”

That's so good! And true!

What's a read aloud that has kept your family warm?💙

So many great tips in this post! Start doing number 1 early and keep doing it even if you or they think they might be too old to enjoy being read to. There is no age limit for a good family read-aloud!

We LOVE the beauty and power of 📖BOOKS! 📖

One of the best things we can do for our children is to cultivate the love of reading.

This is challenging for some kids but CAN BE DONE!

Top tips to grow a reader:

1️⃣ Read out loud to your kids often even your big kids!

2️⃣ Be intentional about surrounding your children with books! Make weekly trips to the library. For special occasions like birthdays and Christmas, always be sure to give books too.

3️⃣ Ask, “what are you reading?” Make this question a big part of your life. When you’re with your child and a friend, ask what the friend reads, and start a conversation. Your child may want to read what friends are enthusiastic about.

4️⃣ Carry a book with you at all times. With a book by your side, your default mode will be reading not scrolling social media or cramming a few emails when you have a couple of minutes.

5️⃣ Encourage your children to keep a book with them as well. Stash a few books in the car so your family always has a book to grab.

6️⃣ Embrace magazines. Check out the Week Junior for a kid friendly weekly news publication or Highlights for elementary kiddos. My middle schoolers also love cooking magazines and Real Simple.

7️⃣ Encourage your children to read a book series! There are so many good ones out there. It is exciting for a child to finish one book and know the plot continues in the next one.

What a difference it will make to encourage your children to read instead of consuming mindless entertainment on a smartphone or tablet! 📚📚📚

A big thank you to local author Anne Woodhouse AKA Jaime Holzhauser for the 2 additions to our the little lending library! Below are my reviews of them and links to purchase are on her website. https://www.five-44.com/ You can follow her on Facebook at Five44.

Goodnight, Goodnight
A very cute bedtime book that involves a never-ending bedtime routine that every parent can relate to. Just when you think you've heard all of the excuses..there is one more! The rhyming and repetition will have everyone saying the words out loud by the end of the book and hopefully sleepy enough to finally go to bed. 🙂 We look forward to having this shared in our little lending library, Books on Birchdale, for many families to enjoy!

Turtle Does Not Wear Socks
My four year old loved this book! Not only is it very engaging with its questions, it also teaches counting and colors. The bright illustrations add a perfect touch to a very cute book; highly recommend!
