The Village of Homer Glen incorporated on April 17, 2001, because residents wanted to control their own destiny in a rapidly growing community. More important, residents wanted to change the trend of development from typical suburban sprawl to well-planned sustainable development that protected the community's valuable resources. Homer Glen is situated approximately thirty miles southwest of Chicago in Will County. This unique community includes major watersheds, Spring Creek to the south and Long Run Creek to the north. Will County Forest Preserve land traverses the southern part of the Village. Homer Glen has abundant native plants and wildlife, public open space, greenways, wetlands, floodplains, woodlands, ecological diversity, farmland and scenic beauty.
