Stop by tomorrow (6/16) to talk with specialists and pick up resources to protect yourself and the people you care about!

12pm @ HSC | 3959 Svedlund St.

Alaska's Division of Banking and Securities is hitting the road this month to meet Alaskans face-to-face, share resources, and help protect you from a fraud trend that's on the rise statewide.

Crypto kiosks (also called Bitcoin ATMs or crypto ATMs) are popping up in grocery stores, gas stations, and convenience stores across Alaska, including communities like Anchorage, Fairbanks, Soldotna, and Kenai. Scammers are using these machines to steal money fast, often by impersonating government officials, law enforcement, bank fraud investigators, or even a family member in trouble.

Here's what you need to know:

🚫 Government agencies, courts, and legitimate businesses will NEVER ask you to pay through a crypto kiosk.
🚫 Once money is sent, it is nearly impossible to get back.
⚠️ In Alaska alone, crypto kiosk fraud jumped from $36,779 in losses in 2023 to $917,758 in 2024. Nationally, adults 60 and older account for more than 85% of all crypto kiosk losses.

If you get a phone call asking for crypto as payment and something feels off, trust that instinct. And if you suspect fraud, report it at IC3.gov.

Stop by for a game of Financial Fraud Bingo, learn about the latest scams, and pick up free resources and tools to help you stay protected.

📍 Catch our team on the road this June:
📅 June 15 | Soldotna Senior Center
📅 June 16 | Homer Senior Center
📅 June 17 | Kenai Senior Center

Stop by to talk with our specialists and pick up resources to protect yourself and the people you care about.

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation is surveying residents 55+ with the goal of better understanding the housing needs of Alaskans as they age.

The survey gathers information about resources, supports and investments needed for affordable and accessible housing options.

For older Alaskans, this is an opportunity to ensure your voice is heard. Housing planners may use the data collected to guide future decisions.

- The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to finish.
- Friends, family or others can help you complete the survey.
- Survey answers are anonymous and individual answers will not be shared publicly.
- The broader results of the study will be available in Summer 2026.

The survey closes June 30, 2026.

Survey results may influence:
Housing development
Accessibility improvements
Senior services and supports
Cost and affordability programs

How can you participate?
Alaskans age 55 and older complete a simple online survey.

Questions cover topics such as:
Your current housing
Utility costs
Transportation barriers
Access to services in rural areas
What is most important to you in your housing

Why should I participate?
Older Alaskans have already shaped our state through their many accomplishments and contributions and continue to play a vital role in our communities. Sharing your experience through this survey is one additional way to help shape Alaska’s future and impact generations to come.

“I’ve had the honor of working with Alaska’s senior population for 25 years and I’ve learned firsthand how much the right housing matters. This survey is an opportunity for older Alaskans and their family members to tell us what’s working, what’s not, and what they need for the future”. – Jim, Officer - Housing Relations, AHFC

Ensure your community is heard!

Complete the survey for yourself,
Help a 55+ relative or friend complete the survey,
Share the link with your friends, family members and neighbors.

Thank you for your help shaping the future of Alaska’s housing.

Today, we recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and reaffirm our responsibility to protect the safety, dignity, and well-being of older adults in our community. Elder abuse can take many forms, including neglect, financial exploitation, emotional harm, and physical abuse, and it often goes unseen. By paying attention, asking questions, listening with care, and knowing when to report concerns, each of us can help create a safer community for seniors.

Our elders deserve respect, protection, and the peace of knowing they are valued.

Join us tomorrow (6/16) at 12pm for a World Elder Abuse Awareness Luncheon. We’ll be joined by Adult Protective Services and the State Banking and Securities Investigative Team for an important conversation about protecting older adults from abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.

This luncheon is an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and stand together in support of safety, dignity, and respect for seniors in our community.

Our family of Sandhill Cranes roaming the grounds with their young.❤️

It felt like the right image for the work we do every day: protecting dignity, supporting independence, and making sure no generation is left to navigate life alone.
