On Wednesday night, an officer with the Homerville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. During the traffic stop, a passenger in the vehicle fled on foot. Officers chased the individual on foot and during the chase, observed the passenger throw a bag on the ground near a residence. Homerville Police officers with the assistance of the Clinch County Sheriff Department and Georgia State Patrol were able to apprehend the fleeing passenger.

Officers then retrieved the bag that was thrown by the passenger, which contained a large quantity of methamphetamine and a large quantity of ma*****na that was packaged for sales.

The passenger refused to identify himself, however, with the assistance of the Georgia State Patrol, officers were able to identify the individual as Kenneth Minson. Minson also had felony warrants out of Bacon County.

Minson is charged with O.C.G.A. 16-13-30 Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, O.C.G.A. 16-13-30 Possession of Ma*****na with Intent to Distribute, O.C.G.A. 16-13-3 Abandonment of Dangerous Drugs, Poisons, or Controlled Substances, two counts of O.C.G.A. 16-10-24 Obstructing or Hindering Law Enforcement Officers (Misdemeanor).

The Homerville Police Department would like to thank the Clinch County Sheriff Department and Georgia State Patrol for their assistance during and after this incident!

If you are traveling at 55 mph and look down at your phone for 3 seconds, you will have travelled about 240 ft. without looking at the road. By the time you perceive a hazard and slam on breaks, your vehicle will travel about another 302 ft. before it comes to a complete stop. Totaling around 542 ft. travelled just from reading a text for 3 seconds.

That text is NOT worth a life!!
