Every so often people ask us about donating to Skunk Ape Liberation Union and it's been happening more often lately....

We prefer it if folks come and work with us or with their local orgs, but we understand there are countless reasons that isn’t always an option.

We don’t solicit donations but we do accept them if offered, unless we know of a mutualaid requestwe can point em to.

You can send us money any time you feel like it. We won’t say no. We just don’t ask or often know of somebody who needs it more urgently.

if you can’t throw in any money, don’t worry. Most people can’t, and we don’t expect anybody to.

If you do wanna donate, CashApp is best for us... $Skunkapeliberation

When we do a fundraiser, it’s for a specific project with a specific budget and it ends the moment that goal is hit. Outside of that every dollar sent to us goes directly to food, supplies, and other materials for our mutual aid work. On the rare occasions which we always explain up front in thw post, funds get passed straight to a person in need.

If a crew depends on outside money, you spend all your time chasing donors, keeping donors happy, and panicking when donations dry up. That puts the donor in charge and puts your crew and community at their mercy.

We won't do that even if it means we might grow slower. It also means we keep this sh*t sustainable, we stay honest, and we don’t get in over our heads.

If you want to kick in, we’ll put it straight into food and supplies for our mutual aid work. If you can't, don't worry about it.

Many times when folks ask, we tell em to just follow Lauren Harris Hall and see who needs help that day. So many people are struggling right now you genuinely have countless options when it comes to money app based mutual aid. So check around first.

The loudest "leftists" online are not who you’ll meet at your local org meeting.

The people calling everyone a cop, a liberal, a grifter, and sh*ts on every org you can name are the folks who don’t show up. They don’t do mutual aid work. They don’t build networks. They don’t rush straight from working their last shift on a 50 hour week to attend a meeting and plan a food distro.

The people actually organizing are too busy doing the work. when they do chime in, they’re the ones with the most reasonable take and the least drama. They're more likely to name the good things about a group they’re not 100% in alignment with than they are to trash an org that does good work, but might not fit their exact brand of ideology.

Online rewards performance. Organizing rewards consistency.

Don’t let social media convince you that radical politics is just arguments.

Find a local group and find out how to get involved. If you can't find a local group. Start one.

While comment sections are pretty terrible in general, social media can be useful. You can learn a lot, meet cool people, build connections that lead to offline collaboration and more. It just needs to be in-service of something bigger than just sharing memes and arguing.

If all a page does is complain about other leftists and tear down every org, you shouldn’t listen to them. Look for the folks who are actually doing the work. Division keeps people tired frozen, and uncertain. It keeps projects from growing. Organizing means showing up, building networks, and doing mutual aid even when you don’t agree on everything. The work is what makes the difference.

Study theory on your own so you can tell what actually aligns and what doesn’t. Don’t just follow a bunch of pages and copy their talking points. Even if that creator knows what they’re talking about (a lot of em don't, but are really confident), but if you don’t understand it yourself you won’t know how to act on it. You won’t know when a specific critique applies and when it doesn’t. Without that, you only have the words. You don’t have the meaning behind them.

"We have to move beyond just critique and opposition. We have to create the things we want to see, right now, in the shell of the old." -The Mighty Skunk Ape

Educate...
People can’t fight what they don’t understand.
Break down how the system works. Who it serves. Who it oppresses and exploits. Use books, flyers, talks, art, videos, conversation, and more.

Agitate...
Education alone ain't enough.
Rub it in their face. Make people uncomfortable with “the way things are.” Turn understanding into anger and urgency.

Organize ...
Anger without structure dies fast. Build the crew. Schedule the meetings. Do the mutual aid. Figure out roles, decisions, how we protect each other.
Turn that energy into power that can win and hold ground.

Remember as the Mighty Skunk Ape and his good buddy Subcomandante Marcos always say "the struggle is collective, but the decision to struggle is individual, personal, intimate, as is the decision to go on or to give up."
